Full Job Description

The City of Corner Brook is presently accepting applications for the position of RELIEF FIREFIGHTER with the Corner Brook Fire Department.

DUTIES: This recruitment will be used to establish an eligibility list from which successful candidates would be hired into a probationary position. Upon satisfactory performance and successful completion of training and familiarization, the candidate will progress after predetermined periods of service to higher classifications until ultimately reaching First Class status. Shift work will apply.

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must possess a certificate from an IFSAC accredited institution in a course that meets minimum standards of an NFPA 1001 (Level II) program. Candidates must pass a minimum physical fitness requirement test, a written examination and a comprehensive medical examination. Preference will be given to qualified applicants having firefighting experience and/or emergency medical training. Candidates should have good oral communications and written skills, have graduated from high school, and possess a valid driver’s license. Applicants should include an up to date certificate of conduct from the RNC or RCMP and a driver’s abstract for the past five years. A Class III driver’s license with air brake endorsement would be considered an asset.
