Position Summary

The Venipuncture Technician plays a key role in specimen collection and preparation within the Laboratory & Diagnostic Services team. This position ensures accurate and timely handling of samples while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to safety standards.

Duties

Perform venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures. Receive, verify, label and prepare specimens for testing (onsite or referral). Separate, package and ship samples to external laboratories promptly. Maintain confidentiality of all patient information. Conduct EKG’S as required. Follow safe work practices and organizational policies. Manage inventory and order supplies for the lab Work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of the Royal. Ensure compliance with The Royal’s Anti-Racism, Harassment, & Discrimination Free Workplace Policy.

Qualifications

Post-secondary education in an accredited medical laboratory technician program OR Grade 12 diploma plus completion of relevant accredited courses with CSMLS and MLPAO certification (or equivalent). Previous experience in venipuncture and EKG required. Knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation; WHMIS, universal precautions and safe handling practices. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Experience in a Mental Health setting is considered an asset. Demonstrate ability to enter data information accurately and efficiently. Ability to work independently. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer systems. Excellent organizational, problem solving and time management skills. Maintain workload measurement and data collection as required and input into the workload measurement system on a regular basis. English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading comprehension and written expression. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.

Salary Range: 30.49 to 35.15 per hour
