Title: Creative Representative, West Coast

Overall Accountability
The Creative Representative, West Coast is a key support role within SOCAN’s Creative & Member Relations team, responsible for providing administrative and regional creative support to songwriters, composers, and music publishers based in Vancouver and Western Canada. Reporting to the Associate Director, Creative Executives, the position supports member recruitment and retention, manages a variety of administrative functions, and helps deliver creative programs and member-facing initiatives. This is a hybrid role combining direct member interaction with internal project coordination and logistical execution.
Key Responsibilities
Member Support & Recruitment
- Act as a first point of contact for SOCAN members in Western Canada via email, phone, and in person.
- Meet with SOCAN members and prospective members to provide information on membership, distribution, creative support programs, and other SOCAN services.
- Support recruitment efforts by researching emerging Canadian music creators (via social media, DSPs, blogs, industry reports) and identifying opportunities for outreach.
- Assist in maintaining relationships with key influencers such as managers, publishers, agents, and labels in the regional music ecosystem.
- Attend local showcases, conferences, and events to represent SOCAN and support creative engagement.
- Facilitate introductions between SOCAN members and industry stakeholders when appropriate.
- Support creative opportunities such as songwriting camps, workshops, and panels by helping with logistics and communications.
- Facilitate SOCAN 101s and Works Registration presentations and webinars across Western Canada.
Administrative & Operational Support
- Manage administrative tasks related to member services.
- Coordinate bookings, documentation, and communications related to the SOCAN Houses in Los Angeles and Nashville.
- Manage administration of the “A&R Report” email newsletter that is sent to subscribing publisher members. Includes liaising with Creative Executives for creative content and the development and dissemination of the report.
Manage all in-bound member requests for change of membership status by logging the information in our case management system and routing to appropriate Creative Executive.
- Prepare reports on recruitment, retention, and member engagement metrics for internal use.
- Support the creation and delivery of the A&R Report newsletter by gathering content and liaising with Creative Executives.
- Assist with the planning and execution of SOCAN member events in Vancouver/West Coast, including receptions and recognition events, song camps, and educational initiatives.
Qualifications & Skills
- 2–4 years of relevant experience in the music industry or a creative administrative role.
- Post-secondary education in a related field (Music Business, Communications, Arts Administration) or equivalent experience.
- Strong knowledge of the Canadian music industry, particularly the Western Canadian scene (Vancouver and surrounding areas).
- Demonstrated interest in music and ability to identify emerging talent across genres.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; French is an asset.
- Strong administrative and organizational skills; comfortable with spreadsheets, databases, and document formatting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); familiarity with Adobe Acrobat, social media platforms, and basic media file handling.
- Ability to attend events during evenings or weekends as required.
