Role Summary

The Manager, Information Technology is responsible for the overall management, security, and effectiveness of the organization’s technology environment. In conjunction with third party support, this role combines day-to-day operational execution with strategic oversight, including system access management, hardware provisioning, audiovisual support, and the leadership of future system implementation projects. The IT Manager ensures that technology enables productivity, supports business objectives, and scales with organizational growth.

Key Responsibilities

IT Operations & End-User Support

  • Support day-to-day IT operations, ensuring reliable, secure, and efficient systems across the organization.
  • Oversee user account provisioning and deprovisioning, including system access, permissions, and role-based controls.
  • Support onboarding and offboarding technology processes (hardware setup, access configuration, asset recovery).
  • Provide escalation support for complex technical issues related to hardware, software, and network connectivity.

Hardware, Infrastructure & Asset Management

  • Procure, configure, deploy, and maintain end-user hardware (laptops, peripherals, mobile devices).
  • In conjunction with office manager, maintain an accurate inventory of IT assets, licenses, and warranties.
  • Ensure hardware standards are defined, documented, and consistently applied.
  • Coordinate repairs, replacements, and conduct lifecycle planning for IT equipment.

Audio-Visual & Workplace Technology

  • Own the setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of audiovisual systems for meeting rooms and collaborative spaces.
  • Ensure conferencing, presentation, and hybrid-work technologies function reliably and meet user needs.
  • Partner with Facilities and external vendors as required for AV and infrastructure support.

Systems, Security & Access Controls

  • Administer core business systems (e.g., productivity tools, collaboration platforms, line-of-business applications).
  • Implement and enforce IT security best practices, including access controls, data protection, and device security.
  • Support compliance with internal policies and applicable regulatory or contractual requirements.
  • Monitor system performance, availability, and risks, proactively addressing vulnerabilities.

Projects & Future System Implementations

  • Research, lead and manage IT projects, including system upgrades, new software implementations, and process automation initiatives.
  • Partner with stakeholders to assess needs, define requirements, and recommend technology solutions.
  • Manage vendors, contracts, and implementation timelines to ensure projects are delivered on time and within scope.
  • Develop documentation, training materials, and change-management support for new systems. Facilitate internal training for all users to ensure continuity accross platforms and tools used.
  • Establish and report on Key Performance Indicators for Information Technology.

Strategy, Governance & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop and maintain IT policies, procedures, and governance to support consistency and scalability.
  • Contribute to IT roadmap planning aligned with organizational goals and future growth.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, security, and user experience through technology.
  • Track and manage IT budgets, forecasting costs and optimizing spend where possible.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 4+ years of progressive experience in IT operations, systems administration, or IT management.
  • Post-secondary education in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience.
  • Demonstrated experience managing user access, hardware provisioning, and end-user support in a business environment.
  • Experience supporting audiovisual and workplace technology systems.
  • Proven track record leading or contributing to system implementation or upgrade projects.
  • Strong understanding of IT security principles, access management, and best practices.

  • Hands-on, solution-oriented approach with the ability to balance operational execution with problem-solving, high level thinking and innovation.
  • Strong project management and vendor management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
  • High degree of organization, attention to detail, and accountability.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments.

Working Conditions

  • This is a hybrid home-office role requiring on-site presence at the Tourism Calgary downtown office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
  • Mondays and Fridays are optional work-from-home days, though in-office attendance may be required to support business and meeting needs.
  • This role requires occasional evening, overnight or weekend work, including the requirement to be present on-site as dictated by business needs.
  • Laptop and cellphone will be provided by Tourism Calgary.
