Night Shift | 11 PM to 7 AM | Shift Premium Included

PURPOSE

The Machine Operator is responsible for the set-up, operation, and minor troubleshooting of packaging equipment. Machine Operator duties are divided into two main groups as outlined below:

Level I Machine Operators are responsible primarily for the efficient setup and running of the packaging machinery, specifically the JDA and Paxium machines, the cup line and the carton line. Additional responsibilities include backup coverage for the Level II Machine Operators on the Multivac machine.

Level II Machine Operators are responsible primarily for the efficient setup and running of the Multivac machine. Additional responsibilities include backup coverage for the Level I operators on above noted machines/lines.

Each machine operator is also responsible for the timely and accurate completion of any reporting or paperwork associated with the machine or line that they are working on.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set up machinery for production while conducting pre-op inspections
  • Responsible for the safe operation of the packaging equipment while accurately following the production schedule
  • Monitor equipment during production operation to ensure proper functionality. If any deficiencies are noted, report immediately to Equipment Specialist, and/or Production Supervisor
  • Operate packaging equipment efficiently to maintain optimal production
  • Follow GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practises) and HACCP procedures
  • Follow all Health and Safety rules, policies, and procedures
  • Maintain equipment and clean work area by following standard sanitation processes and procedures
  • Oversees assembly and disassembly of equipment, communicating any concerns or issues identified to Equipment Specialist and/or Production Supervisor
  • Monitoring and recording lot tracking and weight checks for finished products at packaging stage
  • Replacing packaging material (films) as needed on equipment
  • Perform daily pre-op and post-op checks on machinery
  • Accurately complete any reporting or paperwork associated with each respective machine or packaging line as necessary
  • Perform start up and shutdown activities as per manufacturing procedures

SUPERVISES – None

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in Food Handling and Processing is an asset
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with production machinery is an asset
  • Highly detail oriented with the ability to multitask.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR FOOD SAFETY AND QUALITY

  • Adhere to GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practises) and HACCP written procedures
  • Perform pre-operational inspection for Stage 2 ensuring food safety is not compromised.
  • Maintain equipment and utensils in a tidy matter.
  • Ensure lot trace for filling and packaging orders is logged in a timely manner as per written procedures.
  • Report any issue to Quality Assurance Manager who will initiate Food Safety Assessment.
  • Be aware of unsafe conditions in stores that could potentially affect food safety.
  • Follow allergen control procedures to avoid cross contamination.
  • Inform Equipment Specialist and Maintenance personnel if preventative maintenance is required

TRAINING

  • GMP’s, HACCP, Pest Control, Food Defense
  • Food Safety and Quality applicable procedures (Preventative Maintenance)
  • Weights check and metal detector
  • Pre operational and sanitation inspections (related to shift work)

BACK UP EMPLOYEE

  • Equipment Specialist, Production Supervisor or designee
