About the role

Your Opportunity:

The Discipline Lead (Hematopathology) position is a key leadership role within APL, reporting directly to the Executive Director, Hub Laboratories and Discipline Councils. The Discipline Specific Lead will work closely with their designated Medical as their Medical Dyad/s. With expertise in Hematopathology, the Discipline Lead is tasked with engaging with stakeholders and chairing committees to develop plans, as well as the delivery and evaluation of Discipline initiatives and services at a provincial level.

Description:

The Discipline Lead is accountable for making decisions and providing leadership in the coordination and standardization of clinical diagnostic testing (specific to their Discipline) across the province of Alberta to ensure there is: Appropriate testing accessible throughout the province. Standardized diagnostic algorithms and testing throughout the province. High quality, efficient, and optimized testing available throughout the province. Consistency in implementation planning and standards for the Discipline within the Laboratory Information Systems. Appropriate engagement of relevant stakeholders. The Discipline Lead will serve as a consultant and or leader in a technical, education, informatics, or quality assurance capacity. The Discipline Lead will coordinate and participate in monitoring key discipline quality and performance metrics.

Required Qualifications:

Graduate of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA). Minimum 5 years' experience in specific Discipline (Hematopathology).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Advanced Microsoft computer skills. Strong analytical reasoning skills and decision-making abilities. Strong ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment with the proven ability to build and maintain professional relationships. Knowledge and experience on the instrumentation specific to area of focus. Program/resource development experience related to needs assessment planning, program design, implementation and evaluation. Demonstrated experience with method or equipment evaluations including statistical analysis. Proven ability to communicate clearly and concisely to explain information in a well thought out logical and effective manner. Excellent organizational skills and ability to work and complete tasks accurately within a varied, dynamic and multi-tasked environment. Effective leadership abilities combined with a strong commitment to operating within a team environment and the ability to motivate and inspire others to achieve common goals. Demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues.

Preferred Qualifications:

ART or Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences or Bachelor of Science an asset. Undergraduate degree in a related field (healthcare profession, business, etc.) Leadership training courses/sessions. Relevant certification (i.e. PROSCI, Project Management Professional (PMP), Process Excellence, etc.). Minimum 3 years' experience in a Leadership position.
