About the role

Métis Family Connections Supervisor

Location: #200 12308 111 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta

Closing Date: Until Suitable Candidate Found

Position Status: One (1) Full-time (40 hours/week) Permanent Position

Reporting to the Métis Family Resource Program Manager, the Métis Family Connections Supervisor will oversee the day-to-day activities associated with providing culturally sensitive, trauma informed, community-based supports to Métis children and families. The successful candidate will provide direct supervision to staff within the Navigating Métis Community Resources and FASD Bridging Connections Program, acting as bridge to the program manager and senior leadership of the Children and Family Services department, ensuring the completion of culturally grounded projects on time and in alignment with departmental goals. The Métis Family Connections Supervisor must have excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, demonstrated leadership qualities, and a passion for helping Métis children and families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the Navigating Métis Community Resources and FASD Bridging Connections Program teams in the development, implementation, evaluation, and reporting on programming, events, and supports.

  • Report to the MFRP Manager and collaborate with leadership to align program goals with departmental priorities and C-92 jurisdictional control timelines.

  • Support the development, implementation, and review of policies and procedures to enhance the delivery of services within the MFRP.

  • Create, review, and maintain program processes, policies, and procedures to ensure effective and efficient service delivery across NMCR, FASD, and other MFRP programming areas.

  • Review and refine program plans, collateral, and timelines to ensure high-quality delivery, including milestones, registration processes, and evaluation strategies.

  • Identify and address program gaps, emerging needs, and opportunities for growth within NMCR, FASD, and future community-based programming.

  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders and partners to foster and maintain positive and collaborative relationships.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with the Métis community to support children, families, and program development.

  • Support the preparation and delivery of presentations and training to stakeholders, community, provincial, and national audiences, as required.

  • Collaborate with the MFRP Manager on staffing responsibilities and perform supervisory duties including hiring and training staff, assigning job duties, and developing and overseeing staff work plans.

  • Conduct one-on-ones, annual reviews, and approve time off/timesheets for direct reports; collaborate with the MFRP Manager on corrective action as required.

  • Mentor team members and provide effective leadership through feedback, coaching, and formal evaluations.

  • Lead and participate in team meetings, fostering collaboration and alignment with program and departmental goals.

  • Participate in and support the overall strategic direction of the Children and Family Services department and Otipemisiwak Métis Government.

  • Other duties as required or assigned.

  • Receptive to constructive feedback, committed to continuous improvement, and aligns personal development with overarching team objectives.

  • Culturally sensitive and compassionate.

  • Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government is an asset.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field.

  • Two (2) years of leadership experience is an asset. Experience supervising a team of direct reports is preferred.

  • Working knowledge of Act C.92, the Child and Youth Enhancement Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and Protection of Personal Information Act.

  • Experience working with Indigenous communities is an asset.

Other Requirements

  • Position is based in Edmonton; in-office presence is required.

  • Ability to work a regular schedule of Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM.

  • Must be willing to travel within Alberta and work irregular hours, on occasion, to meet program needs.

  • Reliable transportation and a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

  • Acceptable attainment and annual maintenance of a Clear Police Information Check with a Clear Vulnerable Sector Check and a Clear Intervention Record Check is required.
