Duties:
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Install, assemble, move and/or repair office, classroom, and event equipment
- Inspect exterior building envelopes, and roofs for possible signs of failure and rectify as possible or make recommendations for repairs
- Repair, inspect, adjust door locks, panic hardware, and equipment associated with doors
- Safe use and operation of manual and power hand tools
- Paint and repair drywall
- Replace light fixtures
- Repair / replace toilets, sinks, faucets, flush valves, washroom dispensers and other equipment associated with plumbing systems
- Repair leaks and clear plugged sewers / drains
- Perform basic maintenance on vehicles, bobcat, mower, golf cart, and powered equipment.
- Support volunteer landscape construction teams including arranging supplies for projects
- Repairs to landscape features such as fences, paving, signage, and boardwalks
- Basic road maintenance
- Assist Horticulture Coordinator with grounds maintenance as/when requested
- Power washing, blowing, raking as needed
- Assist in irrigation repairs and maintenance
- Clearing of recycling, organic, and refuse to pick up locations
- Assist with event set up
- Assist in coordinating the work of service providers
- Maintain related records
Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma plus the Building Environmental Systems Certificate Program, or equivalent. Minimum five years' recent directly related experience in the buildings trades and maintenance of electrical, plumbing, mechanical and HVAC systems / equipment in an institutional setting. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Knowledge on the safe use of scaffolding and ladders.
- Must be physically fit, as work requires the performance of duties resulting in physical fatigue caused by frequent moderate physical activity and intermittent periods of heavy physical activity.
- Position requires frequent exposure to major undesirable and disagreeable conditions as outdoor tasks are completed in all weather conditions.
- Basic computer literacy and excellent interpersonal relations required in dealing with a diverse client base (employees and students), as well as problem solving skills.
- Safety footwear (CSA Standard) required.
- Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
Diploma in Building Services and additional trade skills (carpentry, painting, drywall, electrical, plumbing, and heating). Certification or confirmed safe handling and operation of a skid steer loader would be an asset. Ability to read and interpret building plans and specifications.
