Job Description
The County of Grande Prairie is seeking a Park Host(s) for our Kleskun Hills Campground & Park to support the on-going operations of the Parks & Recreation department. Located 20 km northeast of Grande Prairie, this campground is adjacent to the Kleskun Hill Historical Village and Provincial Natural Area. It is also regarded as an area of Indigenous cultural significance.
The Park's day use amenities are very popular with photography and outdoor enthusiasts, year-round. Kleskun Hills Campground has nine individual campsites, a day-use picnic site with playground, group day-use fire pit / rental area, heated shower and washroom building, a First Nations historic cemetery and walking trails. This scenic campground sees a variety of locals and tourists throughout the camping season, which runs from May through to October. The Park Host will be responsible for the complete day use and campground maintenance, and therefore must enjoy working outdoors, and interacting with the public on a daily basis. The Park Host must reside on site year-round in a County provided mobile home. This contract is for a one-year term with a probationary period. An individual or couple could fill the position.
Park Host duties will include, but are not limited to:

Maintaining a family-oriented atmosphere, handling customer requests, facilitating contract service providers, and serving as a County ambassador.

Day use area and campground cleaning and maintenance, including the buildings, roadways, snow clearing in winter, greenspaces (mowing & trimming), picnic sites, campsites, and play grounds;

Cleaning and maintaining all restrooms and all other facilities within the campground;

Managing daily public access using the park gates and liaising with other stakeholders
-
Managing the campground customers using the County reservation procedures, daily campground customer arrival and departures, and keeping a satisfactory record of the activity;
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
-
Exceptional customer relations and communication skills;
-
Ability to use discretion and good judgement while working with minimal supervision;
-
An enjoyment of working outside, and the ability to organize a demanding workload;
-
Ability to perform hard physical labour;
-
Working knowledge of outdoor maintenance;
-
Previous experience operating ride on mower, trimmer, brush cutter or turf management;
-
Ability to perform minor repairs and maintenance on buildings, furniture and fixtures;
-
Competency in computer use including MS office;
-
Proof of clean criminal record and vulnerable persons background check;
-
A class 5 driver's license and an acceptable drivers abstract;
Additional Information
Pay: $21,249.03 per year plus a County provided mobile home for the duration of your contract.
