RESEARCH ASSISTANT – Emergency Medicine

Temporary, Full-Time (1 Year Contract with the possibility for a permanent position)

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Principal Investigators (PIs) and the Emergency Medicine Research Coordinator, the Research Assistant (RA) will support the day-to-day conduct of Emergency Medicine research studies at HSNRI. The RA will assist with screening and recruitment of participants, conducting medical chart reviews, collecting and entering study data, and performing follow-up activities in accordance with study protocols, institutional policies, and regulatory requirements.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary research team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understand the objectives and protocols of various Emergency Medicine research studies.

  • Screen, recruit, and obtain informed consent from eligible participants in compliance with ethical and regulatory guidelines.

  • Conduct medical chart reviews and enter retrospective and prospective data into appropriate databases.

  • Collect data through phone interviews and other participant follow-up activities.

  • Maintain, verify, and update research databases and tracking systems, ensuring data accuracy and integrity.

  • Support the Emergency Medicine Research Coordinator with study-related documentation and administrative tasks.

  • Adhere to study timelines, policies, and quality control processes.

  • Perform other research-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Post-secondary degree in a relevant field (e.g., health sciences, life sciences, clinical research, or a related discipline) from a recognized institution is required.

  • Previous research experience is considered an asset.

Experience / Special Skills / Training

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and research databases; familiarity with REDCap is an asset.

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and time-management skills.

  • High attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Professional, approachable, and able to interact effectively with patients, clinicians, and research staff.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively within a team.

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills with a proactive mindset.

  • Reliable, responsible, and adaptable to changing priorities.

Shift: Days

Salary: $27.38 - $32.21
