About the role
Director, FinOps – Toronto (Onsite: 4 Days)
- Build and lead an enterprise FinOps program delivering measurable, sustained cloud savings without compromising reliability or engineering velocity.
- Own FinOps strategy, operating model, and governance across Azure and platform services.
- Establish and run a structured cloud cost optimization pipeline (identify → size → prioritize → execute → validate → prevent regression).
- Deliver quarterly and annual savings targets supported by transparent savings methodology (hard savings, cost avoidance, unit-cost improvements).
- Partner with Engineering, Cloud Operations, Product, and Finance to embed cost accountability into architecture and delivery decisions.
- Lead cloud budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and scenario planning with executive-level reporting.
- Define and track unit economics (cost per customer, transaction, environment, deployment).
- Improve financial hygiene including tagging standards, allocation accuracy, commitment planning, and anomaly detection.
- Drive Azure optimization initiatives: rightsizing, scheduling, storage tiering, Reserved Instances/Savings Plans, AKS/Kubernetes efficiency, and observability cost controls.
- Establish cost-efficient architecture guardrails aligned with IaC/GitOps practices where applicable.
- Implement cost visibility and automation using Azure-native tools and/or FinOps platforms (dashboards, alerts, automated cleanup).
- Build and mentor a FinOps function (direct or virtual), setting cadence, KPIs, and continuous improvement standards.
- 10+ years experience across cloud/platform, finance, technology operations, or FinOps; 3+ years in a leadership capacity.
- Proven track record delivering multi-quarter, material cloud savings and improving cost-to-serve.
- Strong executive communication skills with ability to influence Engineering and Finance leaders without direct authority.
