Job Summary
A Hiking crew member is part of a team responsible for maintaining hiking and biking trails. Hiking crew assists in running day-to-day operations, lift evacuations and search & rescue operations under the supervision of the Hiking crew Supervisor, Mountain Safety Supervisor and the Slopes Manager.
This is a seasonal position available from May to October.
Essential Job Functions
- Monitor and maintain the safe conditions of runs/trails.
- Work safely around heavy machinery.
- Help transport injured guests/staff from the mountain to the patient transfer station.
- Recognize causes of risk, sets up and maintains signage, fencing and boundary markers to minimize hazards.
- Follow established working procedures and ensure safe working conditions for himself/herself and the mountain safety staff.
- A thorough knowledge of company and department policies as stated in the Emergency Procedures and Safety Program manuals.
- Assist teams during lift evacuations and search and rescue operations as required.
- Always act professionally.
- Interact positively with guests: provide accurate information regarding lifts, runs, area facilities/services, operating hours and current events. Handle complaints and resolve situations in a courteous manner.
Required Qualifications and Abilities
- High school graduate
- Must be eligible to work in Canada
- Be able to provide proof of SIN – either card or document provided by Canadian government
- Workers Compensation Board Occupational First Aid Level 1
- Minimum 1 year experience constructing trail (professionally or recreationally)
- Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Must hold BC Driver’s License to operate any side by side, vehicle
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
