An opportunity exists for you to bring your outstanding leadership skills to the Geomatics and Property Management Office, Ministry of Transportation (MTO), to provide support and direction to a team of professionals across the province.

NOTE: The location of the vacancy is at 301 St Paul St, St Catharines. However, pending the results of the competition, consideration will be given to the successful candidate to allow him/her to work out of one of the MTO offices identified below. Location will be based on the successful candidate's current home or work address and operational needs.

About the job

In this role, you will:

  • Provide expert technical advice and guidance to staff and senior management staff on all matters related to real property activities, including the acquisition, appraisal, management and disposal of land
  • Provide guidance and expertise on issues, policies, procedures and operating guidelines
  • Promote consistency and compliance with related policy, standards and procedures
  • Initiate policy, and prepare and edit discussion papers, special reports and briefing materials
  • Plan, coordinate and supervise staff in a team lead capacity to maximize quality and efficiency and to meet deadlines
  • Ensure effective representation of the ministry's interest at hearings, and in dealing with multiple stakeholders

What you bring to the team

Property Policy Expertise:

  • You have proven knowledge and abilities related to property acquisition, land management and conveyancing to support the construction of right-of-way infrastructure.
  • You have knowledge of transportation planning, engineering and approval processes.
  • You have knowledge and experience in preparing and reviewing property appraisals.
  • You have working knowledge of policy development and decision making processes to develop and interpret policy and make recommendations.

Leadership and Project Management Abilities:

  • You have strong leadership skills to provide supervision, training, and development and assign and evaluate work.
  • You have project management skills to plan, organize and deliver a wide variety of complex assignments with competing deadlines.
  • You have planning and coordination skills to assist with workload planning.

Relationship Management and Communication Skills:

  • You have stakeholder relationship and management skills to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders.
  • You have solid advisory, influencing and negotiation skills.
  • You have consultation, presentation and facilitation skills.
  • You have communication skills to provide expertise, interpretations and direction on related legislation and policy.
