The Market Analyst serves as Assessment & Tax's analytical expert. Most activities undertaken by the Market Analyst aim to ensure that The City of Calgary's assessments are compliant to legislative, industry, and internal quality standards. Primary duties include:

  • Develop, implement and monitor Assessment & Tax's quality assurance framework for both appraisal accuracy and data integrity.
  • Audit and approve hedonic regression and income models to comply with legislated, professional, and organizational standards.
  • Prepare hedonic regression models to value real estate.
  • Review statistical analyses completed by other divisions within Assessment & Tax.
  • Offer subject matter expertise to Assessors, Leaders and/or Managers on statistical analyses, hedonic regression analysis and quality assurance processes during formal training sessions.
  • Conduct market research, analysis and forecasts for all sectors of Calgary's real estate.
  • Promote continuous improvement and the utilization of best practices for the mass appraisal of real estate.
  • Prepare complex reports using Assessment's extensive real estate database.
  • Train and mentor staff on topics such as statistical analyses and quality assurance processes.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Finance or a related discipline.
  • At least 3 years of experience in real estate appraisal or statistics and modeling.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and intermediate proficiency working with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Outlook) is required.
  • Proficiency in statistical software such as Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), Statistical Analysis System (SAS), STATA, or similar is essential.
  • Experience in the real estate industry and working with Python will be considered an asset.
  • You will have an exceptional aptitude to solve complex problems and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced team atmosphere.
  • You will demonstrate knowledge of quantitative analysis, including the ability to apply statistical and mathematical theory to specify and calibrate models using multivariate regression analysis, run statistical tests and interpret the results.
  • Competencies for this position include strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, excellent planning and organization abilities, well developed communications skills, and maintain effective working relationships at all levels.

Workstyle

  • This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

Location: 2924 11 Street NE

Compensation: Pay Grade 12 $48.54 - 64.88 per hour

Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day

work week, with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle.

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
