Instructor, Driving
Salary: $65,892 to $101,220 per year
Location: Slave Lake
August 13, 2026 to Ongoing
Qualifications:
- A valid Class 1 driver’s license – Endorsement: Air Brake (Q)
- Ability to become a Class 1 Driving Instructor
- Driving Instructor shall be licensed in accordance with the Driver Training and Driver Examination Regulation (AR 316/2002)
- Clean Driver’s Abstract
- Knowledge of federal and provincial regulations
- Minimum five (5) years of industry experience
- Excellent communication skills with a customer service orientation and an ability to work in a professional manner with all levels of the organization
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Strong leadership and mentoring capability
- Awareness of adult learning techniques
- A clean vulnerable sector criminal record check prior to commencement
- A combination of education, training, and experience may be considered
Assets:
- Class 2 training
Nature and Scope of Work:
Reporting to the Chair, Trades & Resource Technology, this position is responsible for instruction in cooperation with other members of the Driver Training team. Topics for instruction primarily include, in classroom, in yard, and in cab Class 1 L earning Pathway, but may also include instruction in other program topics as required and as appropriate. The working schedule for this position is Monday to Friday which may involve a combination of morning, afternoon or evening shifts with the potential to work on weekend if required for student’s driving hours.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Instruction and Training Delivery
- Plan and instruct topics as required for the Alberta Transportation Class 1 Learning Pathway curriculum with a focus on training knowledge, skills, and attitudes
- Conduct and document required classroom and behind-the-wheel training for drivers and re-training as needed
- Work with trainees to sharpen employability skills
- Ensure adherence to provincial learning pathway requirements for Class 1 training
- Perform ongoing annual and post collision driver evaluations
Student Records, Compliance, and Documentation
- Keep accurate records and give regular feedback on trainee attendance and progress
- Abide by privacy policies and regulations in regards to student information
- Maintain an up-to-date log book of hours that meets industry standards
- Maintain an up-to-date log of hours the trainee completes throughout their course
- Ensure documentation for licensing is completed to set standards
- Make recommendations regarding the development of the program
Stakeholder Collaboration, Vehicle Responsibility, and Other Duties
- Work with stakeholders to ensure consistent training process for all trainees
- Some travel to meetings and to work places will be required
- Conduct pre and post trip inspection of the truck
- Responsible for the cleanliness and basic vehicle maintenance of the truck to ensure safe work practices
- Adhere to the college’s policies, procedures, and regulations
