Job Description

The Traffic Engineer is responsible for leading transportation planning and traffic engineering assignments in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The role supports the delivery of multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects involving municipal transportation networks, active transportation systems, transit planning, traffic operations, parking management, and roadway safety assessments. Collaboration with project managers, technical specialists, clients, public agencies, and stakeholders is a core component of project delivery. Responsibilities span transportation master plans, municipal class environmental assessments, transportation impact studies, active transportation initiatives, traffic operations analysis, and transportation demand management programs. The position contributes throughout project lifecycle phases including planning, analysis, regulatory review, reporting, stakeholder engagement, and proposal development. Lead transportation planning and traffic engineering studies involving multi-modal transportation systems, transportation master plans, and transportation impact assessments. Prepare technical reports, regulatory documentation, environmental assessment deliverables, and transportation planning studies. Conduct traffic operations analysis, traffic safety evaluations, and transportation performance assessments using industry-standard methodologies. Complete transportation modelling, simulation, and network analysis to support planning and engineering recommendations. Coordinate project activities, schedules, technical inputs, and stakeholder requirements across multiple assignments. Provide technical mentorship, quality control review, and engineering oversight for junior transportation professionals. Support proposal writing, business development initiatives, scope development, and pursuit submissions. Participate in client meetings, stakeholder consultation sessions, and public engagement activities. Conduct field investigations, traffic counts, parking surveys, site inventories, and operational assessments. Maintain client relationships through effective project communication, technical reporting, and coordination with internal and external project teams.

Qualifications

Required University degree in Transportation Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO). 7-15 years of relevant experience in transportation planning and traffic engineering within a consulting environment.

Demonstrated experience delivering

Multi-modal transportation studies Transportation Master Plans (TMP) Municipal Class Environmental Assessments (EA) Active Transportation Master Plans (ATMP) Transportation Demand Management (TDM) studies Transit studies Parking studies Traffic operations and safety studies Transportation Impact Studies (TIS) Experience using Synchro, SimTraffic, GIS (ArcGIS), AutoCAD, and AutoTURN. Ability to perform transportation modelling and technical analysis using Synchro/SimTraffic. Knowledge of municipal and provincial transportation review processes, guidelines, and standards. Project coordination and project management experience. Strong technical writing, communication, stakeholder engagement, and client relationship management skills.

Assets

5+ years of post-licensure experience as a Professional Engineer. Experience using HCS, CCG, VISSIM, VISUM, EMME, Aimsun, or Vistro. Experience supporting complex municipal infrastructure or transportation corridor projects. Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary project teams. Participation in business development programs and strategic proposal pursuits.
