About the role
Bruce Auto Group is seeking a hands-on, customer-focused IT Support Technician to support our diverse operations: 12 Dealerships, 2 Body Shops, Corporate Head Office, and additional businesses across Nova Scotia. Based in New Minas, you’ll be part of a small, collaborative team that keeps about 300 users productive! We offer plenty of on-the-job training, but we’re looking for someone with a solid foundation in networking and day-to-day IT support.
What You’ll Do
- End-User Support (Primary): Provide timely L1/L2 support for Windows PCs, laptops, peripherals, printers, mobile devices, and common productivity apps (remote and onsite).
- Issue Resolution & Triage: Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, optimize, and document incidents (hardware, OS, network connectivity, printing, OEM/enterprise apps).
- Installations & Deployments: Image/build PCs, join to domain/management tools, configure user profiles, set up new users and workstations.
- Networking Basics: Assist with switches, access points, VLANs, VPN clients, and wireless connectivity; escalate complex issues as needed.
- Firewall/VPN Awareness: Follow change procedures, assist with user VPN access and basic firewall rule verifications under guidance.
- Printing & Scanning: Configure network printers/MFPs, manage drivers/queues, troubleshoot output quality and connectivity.
- Inventory & Lifecycle: Track assets, maintain accurate records (procurement, deployment, retirements), and keep spare stock orderly.
- Software Support: Support enterprise and OEM software used by dealerships (installation, updates, credentials, basic troubleshooting).
- Documentation: Keep runbooks, tickets, and knowledge base articles up to date.
- Customer Service: Communicate clearly with non-technical users; set expectations and follow through to resolution.
What You Already Know:
- Networking fundamentals: IP addressing, DHCP/DNS, switching basics, wireless/AP concepts, and VPNs.
- Security & Firewalls: Basic understanding of firewall concepts (allow/deny, NAT, rules) and secure access best practices.
- PC Fundamentals: Windows 10/11 setup, drivers, updates, antivirus/EDR basics, and common troubleshooting methods.
- Printing: Network printers/MFPs setup and support.
- Ticketing & Documentation: Comfortable using a helpdesk system and writing concise notes.
- Experience with any of the following is a plus (we’ll train where needed): pfSense or similar firewalls, UniFi switches/APs, OpenVPN, 3CX/VoIP, Google Workspace/Microsoft 365, Bitdefender GravityZone, PBS Systems or other dealership software, asset management tools.
Qualifications
- College or university diploma in a computer-related field or comparable work experience.
- Strong troubleshooting mindset and a willingness to learn quickly on the job.
- Clear, professional communication—written and verbal.
- Valid driver’s license and Clean driving record
- Ability to lift/move typical IT equipment (PCs, monitors, printers) as needed.
