This position is for our Extendicare Timmins home, located in Timmins, Ontario.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Plans, organizes, directs and supervises the activities of the Nursing Department to provide quality resident care along with other nursing leads and Directors of Care (DOC).
  • Interprets nursing philosophy and establishes and implements goals and objectives, policies and procedures in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Liaises and consults with families/residents, government officials, company resources and professionals in relation to resident care needs and department activities.
  • Working alongside a team to manage the day-to-day operations of the home.
  • Responsible for clinical programing, audits, and overseeing of Falls, Care Plan, Resident Safety & Resident Care Coordinating Committee programs
  • Managing risk issues related to staffing to ensure risks are mitigated and immediate action is taken on any high-risk events.
  • Maintains an active presence in the Resident Home Areas mentoring staff while overseeing the provision of quality resident care.
  • Works collaboratively with the other Directors of Care in the home on special projects, reviews, and other duties as assigned by the Executive Director
  • Identify areas of improvement for staff development and work with the DOCs to ensure overall effectiveness of the nursing department.
  • Overseeing and managing staff and working with unions.
  • Advocating for ethical and effective practice in all areas in the organization
  • Focusing on Resident Centered Care Needs as required by MOH LTC Home Legislation and Extendicare Policies.
  • On call responsibilities as per schedule.

What You Bring

  • Registered Nurse registered with College of Nurses of Ontario; BScN an asset.
  • Minimum of three years experience in long term care; previous management experience an asset.
  • Current knowledge of clinical issues for geriatric residents, infection control, principles of adult education and quality improvement
  • Knowledge of RAI MDS is required.
