About the role
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Manager of Communications, the Social Media Coordinator is responsible for growing ParticipACTION’s social media presence by curating and sharing relevant, engaging content and fostering community engagement across all platforms. This role also supports the implementation of broader marketing and communications strategies to amplify the organization’s mission and reach.
Position Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the day-to-day operations of ParticipACTION’s social media platforms, ensuring a consistent and engaging presence across all channels
- Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team to develop and execute content plans aligned with organizational goals
- Create and curate compelling content (written, visual, and video) that resonates with target audiences and encourages community engagement
- Ensure all content is accurate, on-brand, and aligned with ParticipACTION’s tone through careful editing and proofreading
- Monitor social media channels regularly, actively engaging with the online community by responding to comments, messages, and mentions, and identifying and reporting issues in a timely manner
- Report on social media performance, offering insights and recommendations to optimize reach, engagement, and impact
- Stay current with emerging social media trends, tools, and platform updates, and proactively suggest innovative approaches to content and engagement
- Contribute to the execution of broader marketing and communications plans, ensuring social media is effectively integrated into campaigns
- Contribute to collaborations with external agencies or partners (organizational and influencer), and support briefings, content creation/ideation and the review/approval process
- Support the planning and execution of social media contests and promotions
- Provide customer service support through social media channels and other platforms as needed

Education/Qualifications
-
Post-secondary education in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Digital Media, Journalism, or a related field
Experience
-
1–2 years of experience in a social media, digital marketing, or communications role (internships, short-term contracts, co-op placements, or volunteer experience welcome)

Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, YouTube) and interest in platform trends and best practices
-
Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with an eye for brand voice and tone

Experience creating engaging content for social media, including content calendar planning, visual graphic creation, photo/video sourcing and editing and caption copy writing. Experience with paid social considered an asset.

Knowledge of content creation tools (e.g. Canva, Adobe) and scheduling platforms (e.g. Hootsuite, hubspot, sprout social)Comfortable engaging with online audiences and responding to comments or messages professionally

Detail-oriented with good organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks or deadlines

Eagerness to learn and contribute creative ideas in a collaborative team environment
