Job Overview:

In close collaboration with the head of the Anesthesia Service of Shriners Hospitals for Children-Canada and under the direct supervision of the Assistant to the Chief of Staff – Clinico-Administrative component, the Planning, Programming & Research Agent (APPR) will participate in the development and implementation of projects and actions aimed at continuous improvement in the quality of care and excellence of practices offered in the Anesthesia Service. The successful candidate will lead high-impact projects that integrate evidence-based practices with innovative engagement strategies, ensuring measurable improvements in patient outcomes and visibility of the anesthesia services of Shriners Hospitals. The APPR oversees the design, execution, and evaluation of strategic initiatives aimed at improving clinical quality, enhancing patient and family centered care, and expanding educational outreach. The APPR summarizes and communicates updates and provides information on the status of the various projects to the Assistant to the Chief of Staff – Clinico-Administrative component and the head of Anesthesia Services. The APPR prepares and analyzes data, reviews required documentation, coordinates stages of the projects, and ensures that they comply with applicable standards, laws, and regulations. The APPR leverages advanced expertise in pediatric research coordination, multi-center collaborations with internal and external partners, including in Northern Europe, education, and digital communications. Upon agreement with the immediate supervisor, a hybrid work model may be possible.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of complex anesthesia-related clinical and quality improvement projects.
  • Initiate multi-site pediatric research initiatives within the anesthesia service at Shriners Hospitals for Children, ensuring compliance with institutional standards.
  • Establishes performance indicators, monitors progress and presents concrete recommendations to the immediate supervisor and the head of the Anesthesia Service and Executive Management.
  • Designs and implements departmental education strategies, including patient information tools, digital learning resources, and professional development programs.
  • Leads the promotion of evidence-based anesthesia programs and patient and family-centered initiatives.
  • Oversees transfer of knowledge projects to ensure research findings are communicated effectively to clinicians, patients, and the wider community.
  • Act as the primary liaison between the anesthesia team, hospital departments, academic partners, industry collaborators, and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participates in the development of collaborative partnerships to advance projects in the Anesthesia Service, research goals, and educational offerings.
  • Facilitates interdisciplinary working groups to ensure alignment across different phases of projects.
  • Conducts literature reviews, benchmarking studies, and best-practice analyses relevant to anesthesia care.
  • Participates in developing requirements for data collection, interpretation, and reporting for both research and quality improvement projects.
  • Contributes to the preparation of grants, manuscripts, de curriculum vitae, abstracts, and conference presentations in collaboration with clinicians, employees and students.
  • Performs other tasks deemed relevant to the position.

Qualifications:

Academic background and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of Health and Social Services. A master's degree in a health sciences discipline is an asset.
  • Good understanding of the health and social services sector, its administration and legal framework.
  • Minimum 7 years of healthcare experience, including pediatric research coordination, clinical project management, and quality improvement.
  • Proven track record in both industry-sponsored and investigator-initiated research projects.
  • Demonstrated expertise in digital communications, including social media strategy and online educational platforms in a healthcare context is considered an asset.
  • Experience liaising with clinical and administrative leaders and managing complex multi-stakeholder projects.
  • Fluency in French written and spoken; capacity to communicate in English is required in order to support or collaborate with English-speaking clients and/or stakeholders. Knowledge of Northern European languages is an asset.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite, data analysis tools, and research database navigation.
