City of Castlegar Building Official – Min. BOABC Lvl 2/POABC Lvl 1

BASIS: FULL TIME, PERMANENT | OPEN UNTIL FILLED, FIRST REVIEW OF APPLICANTS ON DECEMBER 12, 2025

The Building Official is responsible for the review, approval, and processing of building and plumbing applications, including inspections, calculating permit fees, and coordinating inter-departmental or external agency review of building permits, as appropriate.

Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager of Planning, Development & Sustainability, the Building Official reviews and issues building, sign, and plumbing permits in compliance with applicable regulations such as the City’s zoning bylaw, servicing bylaws, BC Energy Step Code, BC Building Code, and WorkSafeBC for part 9 residential and small commercial buildings.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will have BOABC Level 2 and POABC Level 1 qualifications. They will also have a minimum of 3 years building inspection experience, and sound knowledge of residential and commercial construction methods, including BC Building and Plumbing Codes.

This position is a CUPE Local 2262 position with an attractive hourly rate of $50.39 (September 1, 2025 Rate), plus a comprehensive benefits package. Upon successful qualification at Level 3/RBO designation will receive an hourly wage of $55.89 (Sept 1, 2025 rate).
