Job Description ROLE: QA Co-op

REPORTS TO: Quality Assurance Manager

LOCATION: Organic Meadow Plant

We are looking for a QA Co-op to join our Quality Assurance team! The QA Co-op is responsible for monitoring the safety, quality, and composition of raw ingredients and finished products, participating in the application of the Food Safety and Quality Programs, and for initiating corrective actions as necessary. The QA Co-op also executes the Hold and Release Program to ensure non-compliant product is withheld from market. The Quality Assurance Technician may also participate in Research and Development activities within the scope of their capabilities, as assigned by the Quality Assurance Manager.

Opportunities This is a very exciting time for Organic Meadow, as we enhance our food safety program and aim for SQF certification. The main challenge is to develop and implement new SQF procedures and processes. However, this provides a valuable learning opportunity for a student to gain real-world experience in food safety and quality systems.

Knowledge & skills

  • You understand basic food safety and quality principles (HACCP, GMPS, etc.).
  • You are familiar with or eager to learn about the SQF standard and documentation processes.
  • You have strong communication skills and are proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).

Experience

  • You are currently pursuing a degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related field.
  • You have completed coursework related to HACCP, food microbiology, or quality assurance.
  • You have some experience (even through class projects) with food safety documentation.

Nice-to-Have

  • Knowledge of SQF standards or prior experience in food manufacturing would be an asset.
  • Previous internship or co-op experience in a food production environment is a plus.

things you will do…

  • Support the implementation of the SQF program by developing and updating procedures.
  • Assist in conducting gap analyses and documentation reviews to align with SQF standards.
  • Collaborate with the QA team to organize training materials and conduct training sessions.
  • Help with verification and validation activities, including record reviews and audits.
  • Participate in food safety meetings and provide regular progress updates.
