This transition will create new, technically advanced roles and opportunities to work alongside global experts. We are committed to partnering with the Tahltan Nation and local communities, ensuring the project delivers long-term social, environmental, and economic benefits.

Your Impact

As the Superintendent, Geotechnical for the Red Chris Block Cave (RCBC) Project, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe and efficient transition of the Red Chris Mine into its underground block cave phase. You will lead the geotechnical and geology functions on site, providing strategic direction, technical expertise, and operational support across all underground development activities.

Your leadership will help drive excellence in ground control, geotechnical design, and data management systems, ensuring every phase of the project aligns with Newmont’s safety, quality, and performance standards.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to one of the industry’s most exciting underground mining projects and leave a lasting technical legacy.

As a Part of Our Team, You Will

  • Lead, mentor, and empower a multidisciplinary team of geotechnical and geological professionals.
  • Develop, review, and implement geotechnical designs and ground support standards to achieve safe and efficient mining operations.
  • Manage and interpret geotechnical monitoring systems, including seismic, convergence, and cave growth data.
  • Oversee site investigation programs such as core logging, face mapping, and rock mass characterization.
  • Collaborate with engineering, construction, and operations teams to integrate geotechnical input into mine design and planning.
  • Coordinate external consultants and contractors to deliver specialized geotechnical projects.
  • Promote continuous improvement, innovation, and knowledge sharing across the team.
  • Demonstrate visible safety leadership by embedding geotechnical risk management into every stage of execution.

Requirements for Success in This Role

You bring a strong foundation in geotechnical and geological engineering, backed by hands-on experience in underground mining or large-scale project environments. You are a trusted technical leader who combines analytical depth with practical judgment and a passion for mentoring others.

  • Solid background in geotechnical or geological engineering gained through underground operations.
  • Degree in Mining, Geotechnical, Geological, or related Engineering discipline.
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary technical teams, coach professionals, and manage contractor performance.
  • Strong understanding of ground control design, rock mass characterization, QA/QC systems, and process development.
  • Familiarity with block caving methods and large-scale underground mining environments, ideally in northern or remote locations.
  • Registered (or eligible) Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in British Columbia.
  • Deep knowledge of regulatory frameworks, industry standards, and corporate geotechnical governance.

Your Work Environment

You will be based at the Red Chris Block Cave Project, working in a high-altitude underground mining setting. The role calls for adaptability, resilience, and a strong commitment to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and collaborative workplace within a dynamic project environment.

This is a fly-in, fly-out (FIFO) position, operating on a 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off rotation. While on site, you’ll enjoy comfortable accommodations designed to support your wellbeing, including balanced meals prepared by our culinary team, access to TV and Wi-Fi, a fully equipped on-site gym, and a range of recreational activities.

  • Ongoing training and continuous professional development opportunities

The safety and well-being of our workforce are our highest priorities. We promote a drug- and alcohol-free workplace, supported by mandatory pre-employment testing to ensure a safe environment for everyone on site.

You’ll be part of a culture deeply rooted in safety, inclusion, and partnership with the Tahltan Nation and local communities, contributing to one of Newmont’s most innovative undertakings as we advance Canada’s next first block cave mining operation.
