About the role

Convergint is currently recruiting for a BAS System Designer to join our amazing culture in Calgary. As the Systems Designer, and under direct supervision, you will be responsible for reviewing project mechanical drawings, specifications, vendor shop drawings, creating a design for Building Automation System as well as creating graphics packages for different projects, as and when required including a variety of projects that vary in complexity.

What you’ll do with “Our Training and Your Experience”

  • Create different HVAC mechanical graphical backgrounds along with point identification. Mapping/binding of those points with the database on the Graphical User Interface.
  • Carries out in-depth analysis of plans, functional specifications, and contracts in order to determine and advise on overall project requirements; estimating and design.
  • Develop and maintain in-house engineering standards, libraries, and procedures. Ensures adherence to industry standards and codes as required. Supports and maintains Convergint design standards. This position will require the ability to apply advanced drafting techniques and knowledge of practical, electrical and fabrication problems.
  • Provides input, reviews and may prepare shop drawings and wiring diagrams, based on project plans and specifications, showing location of devices, equipment, and wiring etc. May participate in initial site surveys and/or walkthroughs.
  • Reviews project scope, defining product specification, application and electrical requirements for code compliance and AHJ Requirements. Work assignments vary and may be moderate and/or more complex in scope.
  • Prepares submittal packages according to project requirements or Convergint standards. Revises submittals as required to gain approval. Performs change-order work only with formal authorization to proceed. Prepares as-built drawings and O&M manuals according to project requirements.
  • Advises Project Manager regarding appropriate products needed for installation, identifying any items which have longer lead times, and track materials on an ongoing basis to ensure timely arrival/delivery to the project site.
  • Prepares and/or reviews formal submittal booklets, containing schematics and technical literature as necessary to support each contract. Prepares as-built drawings and O&M manuals according to project requirements.
  • Provides design or drawing for projects during the development and as-built stages of the engineered drawings. May also work on less complex design projects. Obtains electronic plans from engineers / architects / owners. Obtains design drawings from electrical contractors / vendors.
  • Able to work from rough sketches, schematics, and verbal instructions. Ensures compliance with all Convergint project design, documentation and submittal standards. Ensures adherence to industry standards and codes as required.
  • Prepares databases and job-related programming and graphics for computer-based systems. Provides on site assistance with the graphics creation, mapping/binding and training.
  • Provides operational support for the sales phase of projects when needed
  • Acts as “our customer’s best service provider” at all times thereby ensuring Convergint Technologies is the customer’s first choice for service.
  • Adhere to and promote the Company’s health and safety procedures as well as ensuring Provincial and local regulations are followed.
  • Always presents a professional image of Convergint Technologies in appearance and behavior and seeks opportunities to promote the services offered by the company.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested or required.

What you’ll need

  • Exceptional customer focus and ability to work under pressure; ability to maintain awareness of, and seek to meet the needs and wants of the customer without being prompted
  • Solid knowledge of engineering principles and practices related to building automation systems, fire alarm systems, and/or electronic security systems
  • Previous exposure to any Graphical User Interface is required.
  • Previous exposure to AutoCAD software is required.
  • Solid programming skills and proven ability to troubleshoot problems and look for solutions
  • Must be a self-starter and work well
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Solid organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficient computer skills including MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Solid networking & IT skills (Security & Building Automation primarily)

Requirements

  • Degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, Electronics or Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 2 – 4 years of previous experience
  • Experience in one or more of the following industries preferred: building automation, electronic, fire alarm & life safety.
  • Minimum of Two years of any Graphical User Interface experience.
  • Minimum of One year of AutoCAD experience.
