About the role

Position Summary:

Critical, strategic role, responsible for optimizing the production lifecycle, ensuring superior product quality, and driving sustainable profitability. This role serves as the direct link between product design and efficient, cost-effective realization, leading plant-focused teams to ensure facilities can produce new products.

Responsibilities:

  • Production Process Optimization

    • Manage the entire operational lifecycle, ensuring processes are optimized for efficiency, safety, and consistency.
    • Develop, document, and standardize effective and safe procedures for every step from cutting to final assembly.
    • Monitor run time accuracy across all machinery and implement corrective actions to meet efficiency goals.
    • Select, install, and develop a maintenance plan for production machinery and evaluate automation opportunities
  • New Product Introduction (NPI) Support

    • Partner in product innovation to ensure a smooth transition from design to mass production. Design and implement new processes and tooling required for new furniture designs. Coordinate pilot production runs, analyze results, and refine processes for rapid scale-up. Provide Design for Manufacturing (DFM) feedback on material selection, tolerances, and assembly methods
  • Cost Reduction and Profitability

    • Lead cost savings projects to maximize profitability and material utilization.
    • Optimize material Yield by minimizing waste of high-value materials using nesting software and data analysis.
    • Design manufacturing aids, jigs, and fixtures to increase worker speed and accuracy. Conduct Value Stream Mapping and implement Lean Manufacturing principles (e.g., 5S/6S, Kaizen) to identify and eliminate non-value-added activities and waste.
    • Analyze and report on production costs, identifying key cost drivers and developing strategies for component cost reduction (Value Engineering).
    • Collaborate with Procurement to evaluate and qualify alternative materials and suppliers to achieve cost savings without compromising product quality.
  • Quality and Durability

    • Establish and manage rigorous quality control systems to uphold brand promises.
    • Set precise, measurable tolerances and specifications for components and finished products. Investigate defects to find root causes and implement permanent corrective actions.
  • Safety, Compliance, and Sustainability

    • Ensure all procedures adhere to the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), environmental regulations, and corporate safety standards.
    • Lead carbon reduction initiatives, including optimizing machinery energy consumption and evaluating lower-carbon materials.
    • Design workplace layouts that protect worker well-being and promote ergonomics.
  • Secondary Accountabilities:

    • To work in compliance with OH&S acts and regulations
    • To use personal protective equipment and clothing as directed by the employer
    • To report workplace hazards and dangers
    • To work in a manner as required by the employer and use the prescribed safety equipment.
    • Identification and reporting of hazard(s) in their workplace
    • Report any incidents, injuries requiring first aid, health care, lost time injuries, or occupational diseases Use equipment, materials, and machinery only as authorized.
    • Follow general safety rules.
    • Apply EHS training knowledge.

Qualifications/Experience & Technical Skills:

  • University degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred).
  • Eligible for or currently holding a P.Eng license (preferred).
  • 1–5 years of experience in a design and manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and MS Office/Google Workspace.
  • Experience with CNC machining processes and understanding of MRP/ERP systems.
  • Practical experience in developing equipment, manufacturing technologies, and processes.

Knowledge & Core Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles, 5S/6S projects, and ISO 9001/14001 requirements.
  • Experience with wood processing (MDF, Particle Board) is an asset.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and time management skills.
  • Ability to learn and apply new technologies and a willingness to travel locally and internationally**.**

The expected base salary range for this position will be $74,410.00 - $93,000.00. Final base salary offers will reflect an assessment of the selected candidate's skills, demonstrated competencies, and adherence to our internal pay equity framework.
