Please note: This posting is for an 8-month Winter 2026 Student placement with a start date of January 2026 and end date of August 2026. In order to be eligible for this 8-month Student position, you must either:

  • Be returning back to school after the work term end-date of August 2026 ; or
  • If you are not returning back to school (i.e. are graduating in December 2025 or August 2026), you must require the full 8-month work term as a mandatory component to in order to graduate successfully.

What is the opportunity?

We are seeking a talented and motivated Data Scientist/ Engineer to join the Customer Data Management team as part of the Early Data Talent Program. As part of the team, you will receive excellent opportunities to gain hands-on experience with real-world business problems, be challenged to resolve complex tasks, and provided with valuable on-the-job trainings. You will be part of a dynamic team that is passionate about using data to drive business decisions and inform strategic initiatives. Through this 8-month internship, you will have the chance to develop your skills in data science, cloud data engineering and application backend development. Additionally, you will have access to mentorship, training, and networking opportunities to support your career growth and development. What will you do?

  • Design, build, validate, deploy, and analyze advanced models using machine learning, and statistical techniques, including feature engineering, model training, and model inference.
  • Join data across multiple data environments, such as HDFS, S3 and Data Warehouses, using SQL queries with complex joins, groupings, and aggregations
  • Partner with RBC internal partners and lines of businesses (Digital Marketing, Programmatic Media) to help them frame use cases and define success metrics (Key Performance Indicators).
  • Document and Validate model design and performance to ensure quality and scalability of all models

What do you need to succeed?

Must have

  • Strong foundation in statistics, probability, and machine learning (including deep learning), especially in areas like: Causal inference, regression analysis, hypothesis testing, Bayesian inference, time series forecasting, propensity modelling, attrition modelling, attribution, segmentation, and behavioural analytics
  • Professional software development experience with Spark, Hadoop, AWS Cloud (SageMaker, S3, Redshift), GitHub and SQL
  • Strong programming skills in python (preferred), including relevant statistical, machine learning, and deep learning libraries (pandas, numpy, stats models, scikit-learn, tensorflow/pytorch, etc.)
  • Able to clearly convey technical concepts and results to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience in financial services industry with broad understanding of marketing, product management, sales, finance, pricing and risk management
