Job Information

The Aquatic Data Scientist will manage and analyze data to address emerging threats to northern aquatic ecosystems, especially those related to climate change. This role supports environmental management, climate adaptation, and mitigation strategies through scientific research and data analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Management: Develop and maintain aquatic science data systems, ensuring quality control, and compliance with research standards. Secure external funding to sustain data management efforts.

  • Data Compilation: Organize and archive NWT aquatic data from various sources, including historical water quality projects and academic research.

  • Data Stewardship: Collaborate with stakeholders to improve aquatic data sharing, ensuring high standards for data capture and management.

  • Scientific Support: Assist in interpreting data and creating scientific reports, publications, and maps. Advise on data collection anomalies.

  • Research Projects: Lead terrain mapping and modeling projects, manage project logistics, and collaborate with local and international research partners.

To be successful in this role, typically the above qualifications would be attained by:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Biology, Geography, or related fields.
  • Three years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong skills in data analysis, project management, and aquatic research.

The position is based in Yellowknife and involves fieldwork, requiring travel to remote research sites. The successful candidate will support the Aurora Research Institute, Aurora College, and other environmental research initiatives.
