Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The Supervisor, Program & Support Services is responsible for the effective daily delivery of programming, therapy, spiritual and other support services. This is in accordance with the policies of the County and applicable legislation, standards, and resident rights. As a valued member of Long Term Care and Seniors Services, the Supervisor, Program and Support Services demonstrates a commitment to resident safety by providing quality care in accordance with the organization’s mission, vision and values.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (not listed in order of priority)

Develop, plan, deliver and evaluate resident programming, therapy, spiritual and other support services.

Respond to programming and service delivery needs as they arise ensuring that they are age and ability appropriate.
-
Ensure effective team-oriented communication processes that involve all aspects of service delivery.
-
Work collaboratively to ensure consistent policy, programs and support services within the department and across all County Homes.

Accountable for the management of an employee Attendance Management Program for the Program and Support Services Department to ensure effective human resource management and day to day operations and delegating as necessary
-
Coordination of Physiotherapy services and associated Exercise programs in collaboration with Nursing.
-
Coordination of Restorative care Program in collaboration with Nursing.
-
Coordination and facilitation of the chaplaincy program
-
Coordination of seasonal decorating both internal and external to the home along with collaborating with appropriate departments to ensure seasonal care of displays is completed.
-
Set annual goals, objectives and standards for service, collaboratively within the department andacross all County Homes.
-
Facilitate the completion of resident admission assessments, RAI- MDS quarterly, significant change, and care conferences annually and as required.
-
Ensure safe use of equipment and a safe working environment for staff.
-
Function as a member of the inter-disciplinary health care team, thereby maintaining an effective, cooperative working relationship with all departments.
-
Collaborates with the inter-disciplinary team in the development of Quality Indicators. Monitors, analyzes, and reports on department data collected.
-
Facilitate the purchase of equipment and supplies as needed in accordance with budget limitations and purchasing policy.
-
Coordinate with Procurement, Fleet & Property and departmental staff to ensure the safety and security of buses.
-
Provide input into the development and routine monitoring of the annual budget.
-
Build collaborative relationships with partners in care both internally and externally.
-
Oversee the daily activities of the department in a manner that motivates guides and directs employees to the realization of departmental goals and objectives.

Oversee the scheduling, orientation and training programs of both staff and volunteers.
-
Participates in and demonstrates an understanding of resident safety principlesand practices into all day to day activities. Follows all safe work practices and procedures, fire and emergency procedures and immediately communicates any activity or action which may constitute a risk to resident safety.

In collaboration with HR, participate in the recruitment, evaluation, discipline and termination of personnel.

Recruit, educate, and support volunteers, including development of volunteer assignments, and policies and procedures. Organize and plan volunteer recognition.

Prepare and present reports as required.

Support and provide guidance to resident and family council.
-
Participate in committees as required.

Perform other duties as assigned

Lead the planning and organizing of special functions and fundraisers.
-
Works in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Long Term Care Homes Act, andtheir regulations in performing duties in a safe manner and follows all County of Simcoe Health & Safety policies, procedures and legislation.

Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Personal Health Information Protection Act.

EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS AND CERTIFICATION

Strong knowledge of activation/recreation principles obtained through a post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology or other related field from a community college or university.

At least one year of experience in a health care setting.
-
A valid Ontario “F” driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract.
-
Current Ontario Smart Serve certificate.
-
Complete AIS Coding Competency Annually.
-
Leadership and supervisory skills.
-
Strong interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills.

Strong planning and organizational skills.
-
Strong time management and multi-tasking skills.

Knowledge of word-processing and spreadsheet application skills.

Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening that is less than six (6) months old at time of hire.

As a condition of employment, candidates are required to submit documentedresults of TB testing, as per Public Health requirements.

Bilingualism in English and French is considered an asset (Georgian Village only).
EXPERIENCE

A minimum of 1 - 3 years’ experience in progressively responsible, related positions.

Experience in the supervision of staff and the administration of employment policies would be an asset.
EFFORT

Visual and mental effort required when developing programs, preparing resident needs assessments, etc.

Some physical effort required when assisting staff with moving residents and equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is located in a long term care facility, exposure to illnesses and germs are possible on a daily basis.

Work schedule to be determined; shifts may include days, evenings, and weekends.
