The Director of Technology will contribute to the overall success of Coast Hotels by participating as a member of the Corporate Leadership Team and contributing to our short and long-term strategies by leading and implementing Information Technology strategies that effectively support business operations. This includes systems optimization, service quality, cost effectiveness and scalability, all while contributing to exceptional Ambassador and guest satisfaction.

Responsibilities:

  • Sets a clear vision, direction and strategies for Technology, to enhance current business practices and company-wide performance
  • Creates and leads the execution of the Technology strategy against an annual business plan which includes measurable objectives that align with the overall business strategy.
  • Anticipates and identifies organizational change initiatives required to support the business strategy; defines specific implementation plans for change and clearly communicates plans to all relevant groups
  • Maintains industry and professional expertise by participating actively in industry and / or professional events, conferences, reviewing relevant industry communication and analyst reports; builds an effective network within the industry and / or profession
  • Uses business and industry acumen to forecast and address future needs and challenges, and meet them head on
  • Makes decisions and forms strategies that balance the unique needs of the different properties with the needs of the company overall
  • Establishes clear plans, targets, and budgets to support business excellence, such as the development of specifications for hardware and software products used, and performing system-wide capacity planning
  • Closely monitors and measures Technology plans and targets, identifying problem areas and proactively taking charge of solutions
  • Establishes processes to ensure decisions and actions are followed through and plans executed for the Technology department
  • Anticipates, prioritizes, and allocates resources and capital improvements appropriately
  • Develops systems and practices to ensure consistency in the delivery of brand and guest experience across all properties
  • Advises on key processes, policies, and practices within Technology that maximizes operational efficiencies and competitive advantage
  • Maintains positive vendor relationships
  • Builds a strong team with appropriate skills and talents through effective recruitment, mentoring, development and team practices
  • Builds strong working relationships with team members through visibility, availability, clear and frequent two-way communication, collaboration and involvement
  • Sets performance targets and measures and motivates Ambassadors to achieve targets; monitors and manages overall performance of the group and direct reports
  • Identifies succession needs and risks; talent requirements and high potential talent, and actively develops key talent for the functional group
  • Takes responsibility for the attainment of desired Ambassador Satisfaction results and implements improvements based on feedback
  • Anticipates the evolving needs of guests to ensure that the company continues to meet these changing needs and delivers exceptional service; incorporates guest feedback into plans and strategies to strengthen Coast’s competitive advantage
  • Maintains an awareness of evolving expectations, trends and technologies; works to ensure that Coast Hotels stays competitive
  • Lives the Coast Values and reflects the brand in the community; fosters a positive image of Coast Hotels in the community

Skills/Knowledge/Experience:

  • Bachelor degree or diploma with a major in computer science, business administration or related field or equivalent combination of experience and education
  • 8 to 12 years of related or cross-functional experience
  • 4 years experience in a leadership role in the hospitality industry
  • Detailed knowledge of hospitality and networking technologies
  • Excellent negotiation and diplomatic problem-solving skills to resolve issues across functional areas and between the organization and external parties (i.e., suppliers, key stakeholders, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to take responsibility for financial results of a significant functional area
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, resolve complex issues and be detail oriented
  • Strong overall understanding of organizational operations, industry and best practices
  • Experience executing a change process, new system or expansion
  • Capable of managing third party vendor relationships
  • In-depth understanding of relevant legislation and regulations as they apply to own area and industry
  • Proven ability to be an interdisciplinary and creative thinker
  • Experience in discussing performance issues with team members and providing direct and honest feedback when discussing career advancement and leading performance expectations
