As a member of the Chemistry and Biology team, you will be instrumental in helping the operation of the in-person chemistry and biology teaching labs. You will be involved in the daily preparation of the chemicals, set up and take down of technical equipment used by students in the labs.
You will be leading areas of technical work when preparing labs for lab supervisors and ensuring that all equipment and supplies are in sufficient quantity and working order. We are looking for someone to help us continue operation of the in-person chemistry and biology lab and offer exceptional experiences for our employee and student community. You will work with a team of talented individuals, an engaged community and an impactful executive team. You will be part of the team responsible both the Chemistry and Biology departments in the School of STEM.

About the role
This is technical and maintenance work of moderate complexity. An incumbent in this position is primarily responsible for the preparation of materials and equipment for classroom demonstrations and for the care and maintenance of same. Duties of the position include preparing, maintaining, inventory control, equipment demonstration and repairing. This position typically reports to a Coordinator.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Prepares material and equipment and assists in laboratory demonstrations.

Cleans, checks, sets-up, repairs, maintains, issues and stores a variety of supplies, equipment and appliances and maintains laboratory areas.

Requisitions, stores and dispenses materials, equipment and supplies and maintains inventory of same.

Operates and demonstrates the safe methods of equipment use. – Installs subject matter equipment.

Records, updates and maintains files, lists and general record keeping.

Assists and advises students with technical and non-technical problems, supports the learning activities of students in the absence of an instructor.
Experience, competencies & qualifications
-
Completion of Grade 12 including or supplemented by some formal training in the subject field.

One year of work experience in the subject matter.

Our standard work week is Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 4:00 pm. In this position, you will work 20 hours per week .
