About Us
The Faculty of Health Sciences is a large, diverse, and comprehensive unit, comprised of seven Schools (Nursing, Kinesiology, Health Studies, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Communication Sciences and Disorders and Food and Nutritional Sciences), a large Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences and four Research Centers. The Faculty has more than 4,000 undergraduate students and more than 900 graduate students (200 PhD students).
The National Centre for Audiology (NCA) is recognized nationally and internationally as a centre of excellence and leadership in Audiology and Hearing Science research. The NCA provides an environment in which researchers from many disciplines work cooperatively to expand knowledge of hearing function and problems, address the needs of people with hearing impairment, and develop behavioural and technological methods to assist persons with hearing loss. Successes include research productivity and leadership, and ongoing collaboration with hearing health care providers and industries.
Responsibilities
The Research Associate (Audiologist) will apply their expertise and knowledge to research projects within a clinical setting to provide support for Ontario’s Infant Hearing Program (IHP) and to research projects within The National Centre for Audiology (NCA). Relating to IHP, this role will provide audiological services to infants and young children who have hearing loss and will participate in knowledge mobilization activities to support clinical-research integration for the broader activities related to the IHP within NCA. The role will participate in laboratory, clinical and field trial research which will include data collection and assist with recruitment, data analysis and technical writing. The Research Associate (Audiologist) will play a lead role in the project management of a variety of research initiatives, developing timelines, monitoring project progress, maintaining records and reporting. The role will also provide informal supervision of research assistants by monitoring and verifying work and providing training on specific laboratory equipment, procedures, data analysis, and report preparation skills. The Research Associate (Audiologist) will provide clinical audiology services to research participants through clinical field trials.
Qualifications
Education:
- Master’s degree in Audiology
- Registered with the College of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists of Ontario (CASLPO)
Experience:
- 3 years’ experience working in a related academic research environment
- 1 year experience working with audiology-related research and/or providing clinical audiology services
- Experience with pediatric audiology is preferred
- Experience with research dissemination to clinical and research colleagues preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrated working knowledge of Audiology testing equipment, particularly auditory evoked potentials systems
- Proven ability and natural inclination to develop relationships by interacting with people in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written) to interact with colleagues, child patients and their parents, and to complete detailed analytics and reports
- In-depth knowledge of methods for research design, implementation, and analysis (e.g., updating, managing and extracting data from a research database, and analyzing sizable amounts of detail/data)
- Ability to work in a fluid and evolving work environment with changing deadlines and priorities
- Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment to achieve Centre goals
- Ability to investigate defined issues, solicit input, and suggest remedies and alternative approaches that meet the needs of the situation
- Familiarity with University research policies and practices, including those of the H.A. Leeper Speech and Hearing Clinic
- Familiarity with techniques for updating, managing and extracting data from a research database, and ability to analyze sizable amounts of detail/data
- Ability to prepare clear and concise reports and scientific documentation
- Ability to handle diverse situations, multiple projects, and rapidly changing priorities, and to manage activities both for self and others effectively
- Ability to establish, build, and maintain strong working relations and partnerships with students, peers, research participants and industry partners
- Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment to achieve Centre goals
- Ability to interpret and identify key results from research and to succinctly summarize research findings
