The Office of the Municipal Clerk with the Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for up to 3 casual/part-time Audio-Visual Technician (Camera Operators) to provide technical support for meetings of Regional Council, Community Council, and Standing Committees on an as required basis.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Set-up and operate AV equipment via the in-house software (microphones, recordings, displays, web casting, video conferencing systems) for meetings.
  • Initiate, operate and monitor AV systems during meetings: switching inputs, managing microphones, starting/stopping recordings, and monitoring sound/video quality.
  • Report issues requiring service to on-site technical support before, during and after meetings to ensure smooth operation and minimal downtime.
  • Conduct a pre-event technical check: test audio clarity, mic coverage, camera framing and screen sharing.
  • Coordinate with meeting organizers and IT team to ensure proper AV configuration.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:

  • A high school diploma and training in a program related to, AV Communications and Technology or Film/Video and TV and Digital Technology.
  • Demonstrated experience in camera operation, sound set-up and/or other related technical services.
  • A combination of related education and experience may be considered. Candidates relying on a combination of related education and experience are asked to demonstrate this on their application.

Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Good communications skills to work effectively with other members of the Council support team.
  • Sound judgement and ability to work independently.
  • Orientation will be provided to the specific systems and services.

Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.

Please note: Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge. Candidates who are selected for testing, may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer’s discretion.

WORK STATUS: Casual, part-time, term positions.

HOURS OF WORK: Meeting dates and times vary Monday through Friday between 9 am and 10 pm depending on operational needs. Hours will be recorded from the arrival at the work location 30 minutes prior to the meeting until the end of the meeting plus 15 minutes. There will be a guaranteed minimum of 3 hours per meeting for Regional Council and 2.5 hours for other meetings, including set-up and wrap-up. Flexibility will be required as needed to provide support to Regional Council and Committee meetings given meeting duration may extend beyond scheduled end times, with possible cancellation on short notice.

SALARY: This position will pay $30 per hour.

WORK LOCATION: City Hall.
