Position Summary

The position is responsible to the Department Head and holds a faculty position. It is therefore covered by the Collective Agreement between the College and the Vancouver Community College Faculty Association.Evaluation will be completed in the second half of the initial probationary year of appointment.The specific responsibilities listed below are not intended to be a complete and definitive listing. The position is expected to have their responsibilities delineated by the Department Head although they are to use their discretion and initiative to deal with situations as they arise and to assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Department Head.

Duties & Responsibilities

A. Clinical Placements

  • Liaises with School of Health Sciences Practice Education Coordinator to ensure that clinical placement needs are met for all four levels and Access.
  • May act as a CPE team leader & assist in CPE prep days to review clinical guidelines with students and instructors. Liaises with INP team leaders to ensure Field/clinical groups are well balanced and appropriate for clinical sites.

B. Support for Students and Faculty

  • Provides clinical support to faculty with student documentation i.e.. Progression notes and Collaborative learning agreements.
  • Provides 1:1 clinical support to students in the clinical setting.
  • Coordinates clinical coverage as required.
  • Mentoring, orientating and overseeing clinical faculty.
  • Complete faculty performance appraisals in consultation with Department Head.
  • Provide clinical and practice updates at monthly department faculty meetings.
  • Participates in weekly clinical conference calls to provide support/guidance.
  • Liaise with Practice Education Coordinator to ensure students/faculty have completed practice education requirements.
  • Assist with any preceptorship needs.

C. Mentoring New Instructors

  • Coordinates new faculty with appropriate orientation to clinical sites
  • Mentors new clinical faculty to roles/responsibilities and VCC policies.
  • Role models how to support students throughout the clinical experience.
  • Assisting faculty with documentation required in clinical.

D. Department Head Assistance

  • Provide coverage for DH vacation as needed.

  • Assist DH with administrative duties as needed.

  • Attend PN articulation & PAC meetings with DH.

  • Assist with development and teaching in faculty education days.

Area Hiring Criteria

Education and Experience

  • Successful completion of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) or Bachelor of Nursing (BN) degree or Registered Nurse (RN) Diploma with a relevant degree or Bachelor of Science in Psychiatric Nursing (BSPN) or Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing with relevant degree.
  • Current British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCMN) registration.
  • Minimum three (3) years recent experience in nursing practice in one or more of the following specialty areas:
    • Gerontology
    • Acute care Medical/ surgical nursing
    • Mental health nursing
    • Maternity/child nursing
  • BC Provincial Instructor’s Diploma

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and/or mentoring adult learners in clinical settings.

  • Knowledge of the role of the Licensed Practical Nurse in health care.

  • Excellent communications skills, both written and oral.

  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member/leader.

  • Knowledge of all four levels of PN program and Access.

Salary Range - Prorated based on FTE

$53.45 - $85.65/hour. Staring salary will be determined by education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the VCCFA Collective Agreement.
