Regional Produce Manager

Role:
Provides a strategic approach to distribution of produce products and services to customers. Establishes and execute sales strategy for the produce category to meet or exceed profitable sales targets. Provides training, product information, regulatory guidance, market cost guidance and customer service to internal and external customers in support of the distribution of products and services.
Role Responsibilities:
Inventory Replenishment
- Lead a team of up to 5 Produce Planners to maintain appropriate inventory levels in meeting customer demand (Service Levels) while maximizing inventory turns and controlling shrink.
- Direct strategies to improve service level through SKU rationalization and purchasing analysis
Sales and Marketing
- Drive produce sales opportunities by collaborating with Sales Leadership. Partner with Sales and Marketing management, including Produce Specialist, in developing successful sales strategies for growing profitable produce sales; and work with front line sales associates, Specialists, and District Sales Managers to execute your produce sales strategy.
- Develop and implement innovative, impactful produce marketing/promotional agendas. Utilizing the Partnership Selling Process, identify business development opportunities, coordinate sales teams to propose new business, and drive such opportunities from concept to execution.
- Execute SKU rationalization initiatives that are aligned with your customer demand.
Market Cost and Pricing
- Goal is to drive sales of produce and optimize margins.
- Utilizing USDA and internal reporting, manage regional market cost decisions on a weekly basis.
- Collaborating with Revenue Manager and VP of Merchandising, utilize available contract programs and resources to provide customer specific pricing for key customers.
- Ensuring proper buy-side/sell-side contract alignment - maintaining produce commitments in iTrade as needed in support of site produce business.
Training
- Facilitate produce growth by driving sales support through business reviews, customer insight encounters with targeted training and education.
- Schedule and manage category sales training of sales
- Provide timely and effective communication with sales teams including but not limited to market conditions, product quality and availability, new items and applications.
Logistics/Supply Chain Management
- Directs strategies for maximizing loadfill of all inbound products utilizing efficient loading strategy, consolidation and re-distribution where appropriate.
Effective Shrink Management
- Directs strategies to improve shrink management programs
- Work with sales teams to deplete excess Days of Supply/Sales on Hand (DSO)
- Work closely with QA to address aging products.
Other
- Complies with Sysco's Food Safety Policy and procedures to ensure food safety, quality and legality requirements are met.
- Understands that their role is critical in creating a safe organization with minimal environmental impact and the value that brings to the organization.
- Is willing to drive Environmental, Health and Safety performance by acting as an example and holding their team accountable to complying with EHS programs, policies, and requirements.
- Enable, champion and embrace an inclusive culture
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Skills/Job Requirements (About you):
- Minimum 3 years in a leadership capacity.
- Significant produce industry experience, sales, merchandising and/or operations experience within a retail, wholesale or distribution environment.
- Ability to manage & implement innovative strategies to maximize sales & gross profit potential while driving customer loyalty & sales engagement.
- Post secondary education in Business, Marketing or related field preferred; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of AS400, E3, DPR, and Tableau an asset.
- Negotiation - Effectively exploring alternatives and positions to reach outcomes that gain the support and acceptance of all parties.
- Valid driver's license in good standing with access to a vehicle is required.
- Some travel may be required (up to 20%)
