Career Opportunity and Primary Roles / Responsibilities

  • Experience with digital payload systems and digital communications

  • Understanding of interaction and integration between payload subsystems

  • Strong knowledge of GN&C and spacecraft subsystem trimetry

  • Solid systems engineering capabilities with ability to interpret mission‑level requirements

  • Hands‑on experience in satellite systems engineering

  • Roles contribute to three major MDA satellite constellations supporting cutting‑edge missions:

    • Lightspeed Broadband Constellation: delivering global high‑speed connectivity using advanced digital payloads
    • High‑capacity data networks: moving gigabytes of data through sophisticated payload systems and high‑speed ground terminals
    • Earth Observation Missions: radar‑based ground imaging for ice‑shelf monitoring, wildfire detection, and environmental insights
  • Engineers receive end‑to‑end involvement from Phase 0 design through launch and orbit operations, including:

    • Detailed spacecraft design, assembly, and integration
    • Deployment and launch management to orbital position
    • Engineering of key satellite subsystems: GN&C, electrical power distribution, payload and antenna subsystems, electrical propulsion systems
  • Hands‑on work with spacecraft software maintenance to ensure mission continuity and system reliability in orbit

  • SAR payload engineer responsibilities include:

    • Generating and maintaining requirements for the SAR antenna subsystem and other payload units
    • Performing requirements management activities such as tracing parent/child requirements and providing justification
    • Leading or coordinating development of design architecture and subsystem‑level performance budgets
    • Supporting or coordinating cross‑disciplinary teams to converge on mission‑compliant design architectures
    • Supporting design review preparation and presentation, including generating technical notes
    • Creating and maintaining verification plans, matrices, and detailed test requirements
    • Developing and maintaining matrices to identify and track all product development hardware
    • Developing test plans and supporting test activities from planning through production

Required Competencies

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
  • At least 5 years of experience
  • Previous experience with SAR & RF system designs, beam forming, antenna parameters.
  • Experience with System testing, and facilities associated to radiated tests (ex: Planar Near Field Range)
  • Experience in concepts of space and/or ground segment design antenna applications, specification and integration methodologies.
  • Knowledge in Matlab & Simulink and other simulation tools

Complementary skills/knowledge

  • Requirements Management tools such as Windchill/Jama
  • Previous experience in Space programs
  • Experience creating or using models and/or simulation software.
  • Demonstrated capability to efficiently work with little to no supervision
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills in French, knowledge of English will be considered favorably (Contact with customers outside Québec, work on English-language deliverables).

Knowledge of English is required to communicate and work with customers outside the province of Quebec. / La connaissance de l'anglais est requise pour communiquer et travailler avec nos clients situés à l'extérieur de la province de Québec.
