Position Summary
Regular Part-Time Support Staff, replacement position
(First consideration for Support Staff and Academic positions will be given to internal applicants in accordance with the respective Collective Agreements)
The Kitchen Assistant supports the Child Development Centre by preparing and serving daily nutritious meals and snacks for children. This role ensures compliance with health and safety standards, dietary requirements and cultural considerations.
Successful candidates will be required to conduct work on-site five days a week, Monday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at the Doon campus, located at 299 Doon Valley Dr. in Kitchener.
Responsibilities
- Plan and order weekly menus in consultation with the Supervisor, following Canada’s Food Guide, public health guidelines and individual child needs
- Serve two snacks and one lunch daily
- Ensure meals meet nutritional, cultural and allergy requirements
- Post menus in accordance with CCEYA (Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014) requirements, including updates as needed
- Order, receive and organize food supplies with Supervisor approval
- Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen, equipment, and storage areas, including daily dishwashing and periodic deep cleaning of cupboards, shelves, fridge, freezer and other equipment
- Follow Centre policies on health, safety and food handling
Qualifications
- Food Handler Training Certificate is required
- Minimum one year of relevant experience is required
- Experience planning meals to meet Canada’s Food Guide is considered an asset
- Completion of a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check is required
- First Aid & CPR certification is considered an asset
