New Afton Mine

Situated 10 kilometers west of picturesque Kamloops, British Columbia, the New Afton Mine is an underground gold and copper producing site.

Kamloops is a city of 90,000 people, located 350 kilometers east of Vancouver. The area provides the opportunity to live and work in a vibrant community with its own university and within easy reach of world class ski resorts, championship golf courses, mountain biking trails, popular recreational lakes and award-winning vineyards.

About the Role

Schedule: 7 on 7 off, rotating days and nights

Position Reports To: Underground Shift Supervisor

Position Overview

New Afton is looking for highly motivated, positive team players who are dedicated to safety, equipment care and the environment to join our Underground operations team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Order and pickup Tool crib order from Warehouse daily;

  • Administer tools to Underground Miners daily using Gigatrak;

  • Diligently track tools and hold miners accountable for signed out tools;

  • Restock Inventory and compile new order list for cross shift;

  • Sanitize shared items such as cooling vests and armbands;

  • Perform maintenance on hand and other support tools;

  • Service Tensioners and Grout pumps used by previous crew;

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild simple pneumatic and hydraulic tools as needed;

  • Ensure tools are in optimal and safe working condition;

  • Housekeep and tidy up in the tool crib, driveway and adjacent areas;

  • Repair damaged hoses as they trickle in;

  • Recondition and salvage consumables like clamps, nipples and valves as needed;

  • Wash Driveway and Toyota;

  • Bring defective tools up to Supervisor to process for warranty and place order as needed; and

  • complete other labour tasks as required.

Qualifications

  • Possess Grade 12 diploma or equivalent;

  • Has considerable mechanical and cognitive aptitude and proven experience in tool crib or inventory management;

  • Minimum 6 months experience underground mining and a high degree of knowledge and familiarity with mining processes;

  • A valid driver’s license and access to personal transportation is required;

  • Experience as a leader is highly desirable;

  • Eagerness to learn and develop ;

  • Ability to be flexible in job tasks and responsibilities so that work is balanced between team members; and

  • Demonstrated ability to share knowledge gained with others and the ability to solve problems

Other Requirements

Candidates will be required to participate in a comprehensive qualification process, including:

  • Successful completion of pre-placement functional screen

  • Provide proof of a minimum valid driver’s license

  • Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada

  • Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements

Compensation

The anticipated salary range for this position will be between $62,000 to $70,000. This is not a camp operation and therefore the successful candidate will be required to relocate to the Kamloops area or travel and accommodation will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.
