Contract

About the role

**Application Deadline:**April 1st, 2026

**About the Role:**OpenMedia is seeking a highly motivated Network Engagement Coordinator to coordinate a three-month sprint campaign mobilizing Canadians to make change on the issue of voter privacy in Canada before the next federal election. Working closely with OpenMedia, the Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA), the BC Freedom of Information and Privacy Association (FIPA), and a broad range of coalition partners, this role is dedicated to expanding coalition support and driving public engagement.

A core deliverable for this contract will be helping our team maximize signatures and visibility for Parliamentary Petition e-7237 (or other associated campaign materials), which call for enforceable privacy standards for federal political parties. The project partners are commissioning comprehensive public polling and other materials that will support this work.

**Campaign Context:**Bill C-4 and Voter Privacy

This campaign is built in the shadow of passage of Part 4 of Bill C-4, which amended the Canada Elections Act to exempt federal political parties from existing provincial privacy requirements while failing to put in place any meaningful safeguards at the federal level. The result is a system where political parties are exempted from standard independent privacy rules and oversight.

Canada is nearly alone amongst Western democracies in allowing parties to regulate themselves this way, rather than subjecting them to binding external oversight. Canadian privacy regulators, civil society organizations, senators and even a 2018 committee of MPs have argued that parties should not be permitted to set their own rules for handling highly sensitive data. The network’s position is that self-regulation creates systemic vulnerabilities and that political actors must be subject to the same independent oversight and privacy rules as other Canadian organizations.

Core ResponsibilitiesThis position is split between three primary duties:

-**Coalition Coordination:**Organize, host, and facilitate regular meetings (minimum once every two weeks) for all engaged coalition partners and stakeholders committed to the voter privacy issue. Ensure strategic and comms alignment and resource sharing across organizations; lead joint pushes around key campaign moments. -**Network Growth & Outreach:**Identify, contact, and pitch civil society organizations, businesses, and other concerned community leaders around speaking out on this issue. This will include asking them to share Petition e-7237 with their respective audiences, and leading associated mobilization tactics, including drafting and gathering support for joint sign-on letters and business community letters addressed to party and political leaders to build structural pressure. -**Media Relations:**Solicit and secure media attention for the voter privacy issue and the petition. Conduct targeted proactive media outreach, draft press materials, and highlight the coalition’s narrative in the current news cycle.

Qualifications

-**Experience:**A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in digital organizing, communications, campaign management, or network or coalition engagement. -**Language:**Bilingualism (English and French) is a strong asset to effectively engage national stakeholders. -**Subject Matter:**Demonstrated experience with and understanding of Canadian privacy legislation, privacy rights, or democratic reform issues. -**Technical Asset:**Previous experience using ExpressionEngine or similar CMS platforms is a plus.
