As the Leader, Business and Technical Services, you will provide operational and strategic leadership services to the division, including coordinating and delivering technical and business support, delivering business and technology strategies, managing vehicles, equipment and supplies, resolving information technology issues, organizing staff training, and coordinating processes for billing, procurement, and contract and vendor management. You will also coordinate corporate marketing and communication and provide business planning, analysis and reporting. Primary duties include:

  • Manage, lead, and oversee delivery of business and technical services, solutions, and products for the Field Surveying Services (FSS) division. This includes data processing and drafting, records management, fleet management, equipment management, technology solutions, procedures, procurement, contracts, vendor management, client billing, staff training, administration, and safety.
  • Develop business and technical strategies, including business planning, budgeting, forecasting, analysis, reporting, business intelligence, marketing, research and development, and technology investment.
  • Provide leadership, staff development, succession planning, coaching, direction, and assistance to FSS staff in their dealings with interested parties, customers, and other City staff.
  • Communicate and engage with clients, interested parties, and other business partners.
  • Oversee the Business and Technical Services section's operating budget and manage financial recoveries for the division.
  • Take corrective action to improve performance and align outcomes with established goals. This includes contributing to the development of FSS performance metrics, tracking results, and implementing improvements.
  • Connect, integrate, and problem solve with colleagues across the division, business unit, and department, applying professional knowledge to divisional strategic activities such as business planning, technology development, process improvement, and safety.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Business, Engineering, Geomatics, or a related field and at least 8 years of relevant experience in an engineering, field services, and/or geomatics business support work environment.
  • Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
  • Applicants must have at least 5 years of experience in a leadership role.
  • A designation as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) or a Professional Land Surveyor would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience with geospatial technologies, data processing, drafting, and records management would also be an asset.
  • The ability to lead and coordinate operational functions and contribute to strategic objectives is essential.
  • Success in the position requires strong communication, analytical, problem solving, project management, business planning, process improvement and organizational effectiveness skills.

Compensation: Level M1 $115,627 - 144,534 per annum

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week

Days of work: This position works a 5-day work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
