About the role
QUALIFICATIONS
- Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and surgeons of Manitoba as a Physician Assistant or Clinical Assistant.
- Clinical Assistant: graduate of an accredited Medical in Canada or abroad and one of the following: Clinical Assistant Assessment or NAC OSCE or LMCC
- Physician Assistants: Candidates must be a graduate of a Physician Assistant Educational Program acceptable to CPSM
- Level of Competence IV or higher
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Training
- Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), as well as Internet applications and other Information Technology
- Demonstrated organizational skills, and the ability to work independently
- Demonstrated problem solving and decision making skills
- Demonstrated flexibility to facilitate changes in techniques and procedures in a changing environment
- Demonstrated knowledge and competence of skills and concepts related to the position
- Demonstrated communication skills
- Ability to respect and promote confidentiality
- Ability to perform the duties of the position on a regular basis
- Ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population
- Ability to work effectively and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, clients and within interdisciplinary team
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Physician Assistant/Clinical Assistant will be required to perform, order, and interpret diagnostic, therapeutic investigations/interventions.
Physician Assistant/Clinical Assistants will be required to attend clinical and educational rounds. Administrative requirements will include standard of practice recordings of all patient encounters, these methods may require dictating or utilizing electronic medical records where/when available. Assistants must be able to communicate effectively in English with other members of interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Counsel on preventative health care

Arrange consults and referrals

Perform basic procedures such as laceration repair/sutures, wound care, castings, dressings, paracentesis, etc. For complete list, see job description.
