About Us

The Department of Biology is the largest academic unit in the Faculty of Science. Our ~40 full-time faculty members teach close to 70 courses to over 13,000 students annually, host approximately 1,300 majors, and have an average graduate enrollment of 120 - 140 students, supported by close to 30 full-time staff members. The Department is housed in six main buildings (B&GS, WSC, Collip, NCB, AFAR, and Biotron). We are broadly based in biology research and teaching, as we pursue biological knowledge from the scale of molecules to ecosystems. Responsibilities

The Technical/Research Support 1 will help members of the Centre for Animals on the Move to complete finals edits of the short promotional movie about the biology of Canada geese on Western’s campus.

NOTE: This is expected to be filled by reappointment. Maximum 10 total hours over the duration of this contract.

Qualificati****ons

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree or graduate degree in Media Studies or Journalism with a focus on video production and visual storytelling

Experience:

  • Previous experience filming and editing short nature movies and experience working with conservation or biology research groups

Skills, Abilities & Expertise:

  • Familiarity with filming short videos.
  • Understanding of the fundamentals of composition, lighting, framing, etc.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work in teams and manage projects
  • Proficiency with video and sound editing software
  • Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Good sense of humour
  • Familiarity with Western’s campus and potential filming locations
  • The Technical/Research Support 1 is expected to provide their own equipment and software for filming and editing
