Position Description The McGill University Department of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time position as a member of the Contract Academic Staff as a Clinician-Teacher or Clinician-Educator at the rank of Assistant Professor (Clinical) based at the Jewish General Hospital (JGH). This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure. The Department of Medicine is a leader in academic medicine. The JGH Division of Pulmonary Medicine is composed of a dynamic group of sub-specialists supporting the JGH’s mandate to provide high-quality patient-centered care. We have excellent programs in clinical care, medical education, quality improvement, and medical research. Our focus is on the care of patients with acute and complex pulmonary medical disorders and have focused clinical programs in airway diseases (asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease [COPD]), pulmonary rehabilitation, tuberculosis, sleep disorders, thoracic oncology, thrombosis medicine, interventional pulmonology, and pulmonary hypertension. The JGH Division is committed to building up our airway centre and to grow the program with outpatient clinics and research at both the JGH and Mt. Sinai hospitals. Our career path definitions specify typical ranges of time allotted to clinical work, teaching (clinical and didactic), research and administration. As a Clinician-Teacher, the successful candidate’s major non-clinical focus will be on teaching the next generation of physicians. Teaching activity will include both didactic and clinical teaching. As a Clinician-Educator, you will focus on education research of sufficient caliber to publish in peer-reviewed journals or education administration with a focus on leading/developing world-class training programs. The successful candidate will devote 65% of their time to clinical activity (at both the JGH and Mt Sinai hospitals), 25% to teaching, and 10% to scholarship/research. Clinical duties include contribution to the Division’s consultation services, as well as participating in and growing the outpatient airway centre at both the JGH and Mt. Sinai hospitals. This will include asthma, COPD, and chronic cough clinics. In addition, they will also be expected to cover and round on the inpatient pulmonary rehabilitation service at Mt. Sinai hospital. The successful candidate will also be expected to be actively involved in relevant aspects of McGill’s academic mission (e.g., teaching and supervision of clinical trainees and involvement in academic and administrative committees) and will be expected to also be involved in clinical research and quality improvement. Qualifications and Education Requirements Candidates must: Hold an MD degree and must have completed subspecialty training in Adult Respirology; Be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Adult Respirology; Be eligible for licensure in Quebec and hold certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec; Have further advanced training in severe asthma, severe COPD, biologic therapy, and chronic cough; Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire these language skills at the level needed to practice medicine in Quebec.
