Victim Services provides victims of crime with general court related information regarding the criminal justice system and offers emotional support, risk assessment, safety & protection planning and community referrals. Victim Services helps people access their rights and understand their responsibilities as they navigate the criminal justice system. Services are provided free of charge and are available in person, by phone, fax or Internet.

In addition to your regular salary, you will be eligible to receive Remoteness Allowance based on single or dependent coverage for Thompson, Manitoba.

Duties:

This position provides information and assistance to victims who are involved in the criminal court process and works with Victim Service Workers, Prosecution Service and Policing Services regarding issues of concern for victims. The incumbent is responsible for reception and clerical functions in combination with client contact and data management support activities on behalf of Victim Service Workers. The incumbent is also required to use software, which includes, Microsoft Office Suite, Manitoba Justice applications of Prosecutions Information & Scheduling Management System (PRISM), Corrections Offender Management System (COMS), and Criminal Courts Automated Information Network (CCAIN). Training will be provided which includes using the Manitoba Justice applications.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Experience performing a full range of administrative or clerical duties, including reception, preparing correspondence, and creating and maintaining electronic filing systems

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines

  • Experience dealing with confidential information and using discretion in handling sensitive material

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact effectively with departmental staff, external agencies, other professionals, and the general public

  • Strong problem-solving skills with good use of judgement

  • Excellent English verbal communication skills

  • Excellent English written communication skills, including the ability to pay attention to detail and ensure accuracy

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (including Word, Excel, and Outlook) or equivalent applications

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Desired:

  • Experience dealing with people in distress or experiencing trauma
  • Knowledge of the Criminal Justice system and its components
