Reporting to the Planning Coordinator, the Mid Term Planning Engineer will be responsible for developing a mid term planning schedule that effectively bridges long term and short term mine planning. The incumbent will prepare detailed mine plans for an intermediate planning horizon. Based at the Montréal office, the position follows a 5 days on / 2 days off work schedule. The role will also require occasional site visits during the planning study phases.
Duties and responsibilities
-
Integrate short term design with long term design to eliminate inconsistencies;
-
Design mine development at all levels based on grade (including production stopes);
-
Prepare and maintain an infrastructure inventory:
a. List all developed and installed infrastructure (e.g., electrical substations, ventilation walls/doors, auxiliary fans, etc.);
b. List all developed but not yet installed infrastructure;
c. List all infrastructure to be installed;
-
Generate underground activity schedules (development, production, construction, and other activities) using Deswik, MS Project, and other formats. Utilize fields for cost estimation (labour, materials, etc.);
-
Provide support to stakeholders in defining the scope of detailed engineering, procurement, and other requests;
-
Monitor progress and adjust planning as required;
-
Ensure, in collaboration with the Mine Department, compliance with execution plans;
-
Prepare technical reports, plans, and specifications;
-
Demonstrate visible leadership and actively promote a strong safety culture;
-
Participate in the evaluation, analysis, and recommendation of process improvements;
-
Deliver presentations, when required, to Senior Management and other stakeholders to communicate project progress;
-
Actively participate in various organizational meetings;
-
Act as the Company’s representative on site and ensure that all work is executed in accordance with industry best practices;
-
Ensure company objectives are clearly identified and reflected during the planning process;
-
Comply at all times with occupational health and safety and environmental policies and regulations, and ensure adherence by personnel;
-
Perform any other related duties associated with the Mid Term Planning Engineer role that contribute to the successful completion of the project.
Qualifications required
-
Hold a university degree in Mining Engineering or Geological Engineering;
-
Be a member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ);
-
Have a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in the mining industry;
-
Demonstrate strong proficiency in French and a good working knowledge of English;
-
Hold a valid Class 5 driver’s licence;
-
Possess Mining Modules (FMTM) 1 2 3 4 5 and 7 (asset);
-
Hold a valid explosives permit.
Technical skills
-
Demonstrate knowledge of the various processes in accordance with industry standards;
-
Be proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Outlook, etc.) as well as specialized software such as the Deswik suite and AutoCAD;
-
Knowledge of Ventsim and Rocscience software (asset);
-
Possess a solid understanding of applicable laws and regulations governing exploration and mining sites.
Basic skills

Demonstrate rigor and discipline in occupational health and safety;

Be an excellent communicator;

Be a strong team player, demonstrating tact and political acumen;

Be flexible and open to change and constructive feedback;
