Your Opportunity:
The Recovery Alberta Emergency Mental Health Team is part of the Emergency Department at the Royal Alexandra Hospital and provides exemplary mental health care for patients in a collaborative, interdisciplinary team environment. Services include comprehensive mental health and addiction assessment, short-term intervention and treatment. Also includes coordination of community outpatient follow-up and facilitation of admission when required. The Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse provides care for patients in accordance with the standards of practice of CRNA/CRPNA. The Emergency Mental Health Team is committed to the alleviation of stigma and discrimination related to mental health and addiction. The principles of person-centered nursing, recovery and trauma informed care is foundational to this specialized nursing practice. As a member of the inter-professional team, the RN/RPN is responsible for the provision of quality, holistic, specialized nursing care for adult patients with complex mental illnesses. The RN/RPN provides safe, evidence-based therapeutic interventions and completes assessments, plans and organizes treatment/therapeutic interventions, documents and evaluates interventions. The RN/RPN models professional leadership and provides decision-making support by collaborating and delegating within the inter-professional team.
Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with Recovery Alberta /UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:
Registered Psychiatric Nurses who are active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the CRPNA may also apply on this posting. Current CPR required. Minimum two years of recent (within last 5 years) in-patient mental health nursing experience with demonstrated knowledge, skill and ability in the care of patients with concurrent disorders. (Experience may be considered). Excellent assessment and communications skills. Demonstrated knowledge of the application of the Mental Health Act. Knowledge of related program policy, procedures and guidelines. I.E Suicide Risk Assessment & Management Policy & Procedure, Mental Health Safety Precautions Policy, Mental Health Observation Policy & Levels Procedure. Demonstrated knowledge of the assessment and management of co-morbid medical disorders. Demonstrated knowledge of key components of a comprehensive addiction and mental health assessment. Knowledge of risk assessment and management, including knowledge of trauma informed care and alternatives to seclusion and restraint, and associated risks. Knowledge and practice of safe and secure environment for clients/families/teams by listening, discussing, exploring, clarifying and acting on their concerns, needs and priorities. Ability to handle multiple competing priorities while working in a constantly dynamic environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated knowledge and skill related to crisis intervention and conflict resolution. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training (or successful completion as part of clinical orientation). Demonstrated leadership, superior problem solving, critical thinking skills and strong team building skills. Interpersonal and de-escalation skills. Knowledge of psychopharmacology, including current psychotropic medications and side effects. Knowledge of community resources. Familiarity with Connect Care.
