The Lead French Translator is the primary point of contact for the French translation of all customer-facing and internal marketing materials and communications produced by Air Canada Vacations. They will be responsible for managing all translation tasks and projects, as well as leading a team of translators to ensure all translation needs are met according to business priorities.

Reporting to the Lead Copywriter and Content Manager, they work closely with various teams to harmonize tone, respect linguistic standards and meet the company's strategic objectives. They also participate in the management of linguistic tools, the enrichment of terminology bases and the development of translation processes.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

TRANSLATION

  • Represent the Translation team in all large-scale initiatives across product lines; advise on translation requirements and participate in key decision-making
  • Translate or revise various marketing communication such as brochures, inserts, advertisements for daily newspapers and magazines, flyers, newsletters and press releases, and web content including static pages, blogs and social posts.
  • Conduct research relevant to mandates to ensure that translations are accurate and that terminology is consistent with internal and industry documents.
  • Translate ad hoc requests from various departments (HR, IT, finance, etc.).
  • Translate and prioritize e-commerce projects, including hotel and product information available online.
  • Ensure that all French content reflects brand image.
  • Utilize AI tools to introduce translation efficiencies.

MANAGEMENT AND EDITING

  • Oversee Air Canada Vacations' translation processes.
  • Coordinate translation tasks within the translation team.
  • Copy review assets for various platforms and media and communicate changes to the Creative team.
  • Participate in promotional campaign concept approval and launch meetings as required.
  • Ensure that the terms and conditions of various campaigns comply with the standards of Air Canada's legal team and are in alignment with the English version.
  • Participate in department meetings and contribute to company growth.
  • Keep style guide and French lexicon up to date.
  • Ensure quality and accuracy of translations and compliance with Quebec language laws.
  • Proactively audit the quality of translation and provide guidance where needed; audit our website content to ensure that it corresponds to the translation provided.
  • Collaborate with the eCommerce team to audit website content and ensure that it corresponds to the translation provided Participate in monthly editorial meetings with copywriters.
  • Collaborate with Air Canada's translation team to align Air Canada Vacations standards and processes.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM

  • Bachelor's or graduate degree in translation
  • Certification by the Ordre des traducteurs, terminologues et interprètes agréés du Québec (OTTIAQ), an asset
  • Fluent in French and English (oral and written)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a translation position
  • Experience managing a team
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Efficiency, initiative, accuracy and ability to adapt to changing circumstances
  • Ability to work under pressure, independently and on several projects at the same time to meet tight deadlines
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Experience with Trados Team and Trados Studio, an asset
