Ministry of the Solicitor General, Toronto South Detention Centre, seeks a Registered Pharmacy Technician to provide pharmaceutical services in a maximum-security correctional facility in Toronto.

**Note:**The hours of work are 36.25 hours per week. The TSDC health care unit operates 7 day per week, and you may be required to work outside of business hours.

##About the job

In this role, you will provide technical assistance and support to the pharmacist in the following:

  • Receive, process and fill prescriptions
  • Review drug alerts and take appropriate action, support production of methadone, pre-package and label medications/prescriptions
  • Monitor the quantity of inventory and supplies and expiry dates
  • Maintain comprehensive records
  • Update patient medication profiles using a computerized drug distribution system
  • Document patients' medication histories
  • Ensure pharmacy practices are aligned in accordance to the Ontario College of Pharmacists Professional Standards and ministry policy and with the security requirements of the institution

##What you bring to the team

###Mandatory requirements

  • You must be a registered Pharmacy Technician in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists.

###Specialized Knowledge and Skills

  • You have knowledge of drug theory, evidence-based pharmaceutical practice, current treatment modalities, community pharmacy resources and the Ontario College of Pharmacists Professional Standards
  • You have knowledge of controlled drug designations and related record maintenance procedures
  • You have knowledge of pharmaceutical calculations to fill prescriptions accurately
  • You can interpret and apply relevant legislation (i.e., Regulated Health Care Professions Act, Health Care Consent Act, Mental Health Act) to ensure health care services are provided within legislative requirements

###Critical Thinking and Analytical Skills

  • You can exercise sound judgment and work independently to ensure prescriptions meet regulatory standards
  • You can comply with relevant policy and standards when processing medication orders
  • You can recognize and document any unusual trends in drug usage
  • You can identify and discuss discrepancies in products supplied, and report to manager on situations requiring attention

###Communication and Interpersonal Skills

  • You can respond to inquiries and exercise sensitivity when communicating with staff and patients
  • You can provide explanations on the use of medications and side-effects
  • You can prepare reports on drug usage, data and correspondence

###Hours of Work

  • The hours of work are 36.25 hours per week. You are expected to work rotating shifts in the pharmacy unit that provides 7 days per week service

###Computer Skills

  • You can use computerized order entry and manual pharmacy record keeping systems
  • You can use Inventory control systems to order medications and/or supplies
