Position Summary

Specialized Learning Supports seeks a full-time Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) to work with a school linked team. The team provides trans-disciplinary support to school personnel serving students with moderate to severe communication delays and diverse learning needs in Kindergarten through Grade 12. The SLPA contributes to the delivery of speech-language services by assisting the SLP Consultants with active modelling, coaching, direct intervention and support. The SLPA works in school classrooms with individual and small groups of students and may incorporate strategies with other members of the multidisciplinary team in order to deliver service aimed at supporting all areas of development.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • provide direct individual and small-group support for students with diverse communication needs under the direction and supervision of a Speech Language Pathologist

  • support student development in the areas of cognition, self-help, motor skills, socialization, play, communication, and behaviour

  • partner with teachers and educational assistants to model strategies that facilitate student engagement and participation during large-group lessons and classroom activities

  • lead targeted skill development sessions to promote language growth and support AAC usage within the classroom

  • engage in communication and hearing screening activities and assist with gathering data for assessments to monitor student progress

  • coordinate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure cohesive service delivery and integrated supports for every student

Education/Qualifications

  • a recognized diploma as a Speech Language Pathology Assistant

  • experience working with children diagnosed with moderate to severe communication delays

  • excellent interpersonal skills combined with tact and diplomacy skills

  • good organizational and time management skills

  • flexible, adaptable and able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment

  • certification in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) and First Aid

Rate of Pay

$31.79 - $37.30 per hour

$194.11 biweekly advance on expenses

Rate of pay reflects a market adjustment for positions requiring a Therapy Assistant Program (Speech Language Pathologist Assistant)
