About the Job

Châtelaine is one of Quebec’s most iconic women’s media brands, developed by and for Quebec women and proudly celebrating their unique voices, culture, and creativity. With a deep heritage and a bold future, Châtelaine is evolving to connect with the next generation of women in Quebec and around the world.

We are looking for an Editor-in-Chief to lead this transformation; someone who can shape Châtelaine’s voice across print, digital, social, and events. This is a rare opportunity to reimagine a legendary brand for a new era, inspiring audiences with best-in-class journalism and compelling visuals that speaks to the diverse experiences of women today.

About You

You are equally at home leading a team and being a key contributor yourself . You don’t just guide ideas - you bring them to life, from concept through execution. You can roll up your sleeves to write, edit, produce, and package content while also steering strategy, managing resources, and building partnerships. You have a strong editorial voice, but also the humility to champion your team’s ideas and inspire them to take creative risks.

Key Responsibilities

**1.**Editorial Vision, Strategy & Content Creation

  • Define and execute Châtelaine’s editorial vision across all platforms (print, digital, social, video, events).

  • Serve as both editorial leader and active content creator, contributing editorials, articles, newsletters, and digital-first pieces.

  • Supervise the production of all editorial assets, ensuring every piece meets high standards of quality, creativity, and integrity.

  • Use data, insights, and industry trends to adapt and innovate editorial programming.

  • Ensure the brand’s voice is consistent and culturally relevant, expanding Châtelaine’s reach to new audiences while serving legacy readers.

**2.**Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a small but mighty team of editors, associates, freelancers, and contributors.

  • Provide clear direction while fostering a collaborative, creative culture that values bold ideas and diverse voices.

  • Support professional growth and development, setting high standards through your own example as a contributor and producer.

**3.**Business & Operational Management

  • Manage the editorial budget and allocate resources effectively across print, digital, and social initiatives.

  • Oversee production calendars, workflows, and processes, ensuring efficiency and timely delivery.

  • Continuously improve systems and adopt tools that enhance production and content quality.

**4.**Collaboration & Brand Growth

  • Partner with marketing, audience development, and events teams to align editorial direction with business opportunities.

  • Work closely with the sales, branded content, and client solutions teams to develop editorial franchises and initiatives that attract and support advertising partners.

  • Support circulation and promotional strategies that grow subscriptions, renewals, and visibility.

  • Represent Châtelaine as a cultural ambassador at industry and community events, building strong relationships with creators, advertisers, and thought leaders.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in editorial leadership, ideally in current events, culture or women’s lifestyle media.

  • Strong track record in leading editorial teams and managing multi-platform content.

  • Deep knowledge of Quebec culture, media, and women’s issues, with a passion for storytelling that resonates locally and globally.

  • Native-level French required; bilingualism in English required for collaboration with the Chatelaine English team and corporate stakeholders.

  • Proven ability to manage budgets and operations while delivering creative excellence.

  • Exceptional editing, writing, and communication skills.

  • Hands-on experience with production calendars, workflow tools, and content management systems.
