The Regional Health & Safety Specialist plays a pivotal role in elevating the safety culture across the Groupe touchette distribution network by driving Safety Excellence, standardizing Safe Systems of Work (SSOW), and transforming reactivity into predictive behaviors.
This role partners closely with Continuous Improvement (CI), Supply Chain, Operations and Transportation to identify structural risks, leverage real-time safety analytics, enhance colleagues wellbeing, eliminate workplace hazards, and ensure operational discipline.
With a focus on proactive risk management, data-driven insights, and cross-functional collaboration, the H&S Specialist contributes to building a resilient, "End to End safety-by-design" distribution network that protects our people while supporting an agile and scalable operation capable of meeting future market demands.
Starting salary: 70k
Responsibilities
- Build and improve data‑driven KPIs to drive Safety Excellence; use dashboards/BI to monitor performance, spot trends, and correct non‑conformities;
- Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, CI, and Transportation to embed Safe Systems of Work and best practices across sites;
- Ensure procedures and training align with Groupe Touchette’s Operational Excellence; help deliver and maintain training/LMS records;
- Conduct and review risk assessments for warehouse activities (manual handling, powered equipment, vehicle loading) and lead implementation of controls;
- Perform Gemba walks and formal audits to verify compliance with internal standards and legislative requirements;
- Lead/coordinate investigations of incidents, near‑misses, and hazardous occurrences using root‑cause methods (e.g., 5 Whys, lessons learned); track preventive actions to closure;
- Act as point of contact with authorities (e.g., WorkSafeBC, WCB, CNESST, MOL) during site visits/inspections; support documentation and follow‑ups;
- Influence and coach leaders to keep safety a top priority alongside productivity and throughput;
- Communicate autonomously and proactively, prioritizing work across multiple sites in the Prairies and West region;
- Other related tasks.
Success Factors- Bachelor’s degree or certification in Occupational Health & Safety, or equivalent experience in an industrial, warehouse, or distribution environment;
- 5+ years of hands‑on experience in health & safety, including risk assessments, audits, incident investigations, and supporting operational teams;
- Strong understanding of provincial OHS legislation (WorkSafeBC, Alberta OHS, CNESST, MOL) and industry best practices, with the ability to apply them in a practical, operational context;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization. Skilled at coaching and facilitating safety training;
- Solid proficiency with digital safety tools, performance dashboards, and LMS platforms. Ability to interpret safety metrics and identify trends to drive continuous improvement;
- Comfortable working on the floor, conducting Gemba walks, leading inspections, and guiding teams through corrective actions. Demonstrated autonomy, prioritization, and initiative in a multi‑site environment;
- High level of rigor, organization, and follow‑through, ensuring accurate documentation and consistent standards across locations;
- Bilingualism required: Proficiency in French is necessary due to the nature of interactions with French-speaking clientele or partners. This language is frequently used in both written and verbal communications. An advanced level is required;
